Premier episode
[edit]I just watched the first episode. It was incredible, even though I missed the first half, but so far, people right here in detroit seem to have a mixed view on it -- Favorably positive, people liked the Detroit references where seen.
Just figured I would give a view from someone who lives near the area. Detroit's a hop, skip and a jump away from me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.56.196.133 (talk) 03:22, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
What was this show up against on the other broadcast networks (e.g. CBS/NBC/CW/PBS/FOX) ?
ABC says it was cancelled because of low ratings, but I remember Detroit 1-8-7 was one of the reasons I bought a second Tivo, so there were at least 2 other good (IMO) shows in that (Tues/10pm) time slot... Parenthood (NBC) I think was 1; was Good Wife (CBS) also on in that slot last year? Darr247 (talk) 12:39, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Title
[edit]What does Detroit 1-8-7 actually mean? Safebreaker (talk) 21:28, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
The California Penal Code defines murder in section 187, which is why murder is colloquially known as 187 in California. It makes no sense to name a police show set in Michigan after the California Penal Code. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lahaun (talk • contribs) 22:31, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
- 187_(murder). Slang title, because Detroit wouldn't call a murder that. [[1]] MMetro (talk) 08:14, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
Actually, the proper title sould be Detroit 750.316 which is the Michigan code for murder defined. TooMuchTime (talk) 15:41, 25 October 2010 (UTC)
- Tell ABC they messed up having a slang phrase in the title. It is not likely to be changed. If anything the use of the slang in the title makes the show more well known for all of the discussions like this one all over the place. 187 in popular culture clearly shows usage in California is the predominant but there are video games as well as mention in the tv shows The Sopranos and Will and Grace so it is not exclusive to California. delirious & lost ☯ ~hugs~ 01:02, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Music section
[edit]Is the music in the shows really important enough to justify it taking up a full 1/3 of the article?Bofum (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:57, 25 May 2011 (UTC).
- The prose portion is referenced from some very good sources. The episode by episode soundtrack list wasn't my idea and i tried to clean up the formatting but never did like it. It is an idea and maybe not a great one but since the show does make extensive use of local music both modern and more historic perhaps it could be transferred to the episode list. A few other shows known for their soundtracks have that type of content in their episode lists. delirious & lost ☯ ~hugs~ 00:17, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
