Wine auction
[edit]Not worthy of comment in the main article, but perhaps of interest to a passing researcher, might be an auction, by Messrs. Christie, Manson & Woods, on 26 March 1885, which included “90 Dozens of Martinez’ Port, of the Vintage of 1863 and 1868; and 20 Dozens of Fine Old Rum, Shipped in 1826; The Property of the Right Honourable The Earl of Romney”, “lying in the cellars at The Mote, Maidstone”.
