Music and Enjoyment
[edit]"Music" and "Enjoyment" have the same character, yet different reading. "Enjoyment" would be "raku" in Japanese. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 202.40.139.106 (talk • contribs) 18:38, 24 January 2006 (UTC).
Koma
[edit]Sources say that Koma (高麗) was probably Goguryeo, but it could also have been Baekje. Badagnani 22:34, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

yo scale
[edit]"Gagaku, like shomyo, employs the Yo scale, a pentatonic scale with ascending intervals of two, three, two, and two semitones between the five scale tones"
i could somehow not edit this, but according to the article "mode" in the New Grove dictionary of music, 2nd ed.,2001, this is at least quite an oversimplification. not only does it sound as if this were the only scale used in all of gagaku (which does indeed use 6 different modes, 3 of the "ryo" type (2 of which could be said to be roughly equivalent to a mixolydian scale, 1 to a lydian scale) and 3 of the "ritsu" type (dorian), which are further modified in that the second and sixth scale degrees, for the ritsu scales, are often flattened), but also, so I think, uses the chinese term, which could confuse some people. Plus gagaku and shomyo do have quite a different tonal system, I should think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.130.224.175 (talk) 14:08, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
