Maths Error

[edit]

"Estimates of the electricity generating potential of geothermal energy vary six–fold, from .035 to 2 TW depending on the scale of investments." - That's a factor of sixty, not six. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.61.117.39 (talk) 02:53, 4 September 2010

GA Reassessment

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Geothermal energy/GA2. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

Broad in its coverage?

[edit]

Consider the placement of info between this article and the more detailed Geothermal power and Geothermal heating

For example:

Duplication of "Installed geothermal electric capacity" table

Should all the environmental effects and "Geothermal drilling risks" be put here rather than split

Should all the economics be put here

Are there some things here which should be moved to one of the other articles e.g. New Zealand electricity

Are EGS only for electricity?

Add a bit more on reinjection e.g. CO2

Add a bit more on possible future developments e.g. going deeper, hydrogen https://www.thinkgeoenergy.com/green-hydrogen-geothermals-route-to-pseudo-commoditization/

As geothermal is not mentioned in the Cogeneration article a cogeneration section should be written here I think probably also explaining MW vs MWth

Other

[edit]

Various tags need dealing with the most important being that the economics section needs a major update

Consider adding a couple of sentences to history section re any significant 2010s developments

Delete 2015 table?

Trim the bibliography and make sure up to date

Do or delete "to do" list and translation mentioned on talk page

If these are all fixed I may add a few more minor comments Chidgk1 (talk) 17:42, 17 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edit FUchesco but unfortunately no one else came to help so this article is no longer good. Chidgk1 (talk) 14:17, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Citation error

[edit]

I am evaluating an article for a class, and I chose to evaluate citations. I found that citation #3 states that the information given was in chapter 1, but when searching I could not find that information. I searched a few other chapters and did not find that information in any of them PNWAnthroNut (talk) 19:25, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cost of Drilling Math Wrong?

[edit]

Hey, if the failure rate of drilling is 20%, and the cost of drilling at all is $10M, then the cost of drilling, once accounting for failures is $12.5M not $50M: $10M + $10M * 0.2. I think the author used $10M / 0.2 instead.

I'm not an expert here though. Can someone confirm the cost is truly $12,500,000 USD? BlackVegetable (talk) 16:28, 26 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Oh that's embarrassing. I showed my work wrong. Urgh, too tired to fix it. Basically every four drills has to pay for the fifth failure, so each would add 25%, not 20% to their costs.
