ABUSE OF GLADYS KNIGHT and BIAS AGAINST HER by USERS GARETH E KEGG & ELIMINATOR JR

[edit]

On Monday September, 10, 2007, Gladys Knight has earned 7 American Music Awards, to wit: Gladys Knight with the Pips has won a total of seven (7) American Music Awards, four (4) in 1975, Best Soul/R&B Album, Best Soul/R&B Single, Best Soul/R&B Band, Group or Duo and Best Pop/Rock Band, Group or Duo, one (1) in 1976, Best Soul/R&B Group or Duo, one (1) in 1984, Favorite R&B Single and one(1)in 1989, Favorite R&B Group.

Users Gareth E Kegg & Eliminator JR continue to vandalize her page by deleting these facts. Who on Wikipedia has the authority to stop them? (helpme) Comprendo 16:07, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • The only person that is vandalizing the page is you. I have included the "Empress of Soul" reference in the article after your last edit, but I will continue to remove it from the lede paragraph and the infobox every time you re-add it. Moreover, if you continue to deface the article after the numerous warnings I have given you, I will block you. Please see your talk page. The link is there - look at the reference section. Let this be an end to it. ELIMINATORJR 23:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Searching for "Empress of Soul" -wiki -comprendo shows 21700 hits of which also has Patti LaBelle and Connie T. Empress being called the same nickname. It's not her exclusive nickname but she is associated with the nickname so leave it in but make the wording NPOV like she's been called or an Empress of Soul. Patti LaBelle's page could have the same reference. Alatari (talk) 17:12, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem with "has been called" etc (you'll see it's currently in the article) - the original problem was that the user kept re-inserting it into the lede and infobox as if it was an official title. BLACKKITE 20:10, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's pretty dedicated. Had to add -comprendo to the search for he is responsible for a major number of the hits. Alatari (talk) 00:48, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

walk of star locations

[edit]

The follow month or so Gladys Knight is so popular in this world through out the year, she, her brother Merald, sister Brenda, and cousins William and Elenor Guest formed a musical group called The Pips. By the end of the decade, the act had begun to tour, and had replaced Brenda Knight and Elenor Guest with Gladys Knight's cousins William Guest and Langston George.

http://www.hollywoodusa.co.uk/walkoffamestarlocations.htm The preceding is a link to the list of those with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Could you please add it as a citation substantiating the trivia section of Gladys' page which states she was awarded a star on said Walk of Fame. Thank you. 71.198.95.189 (talk) 02:29, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't use www.hollywoodusa.co.uk, it is a COPYVIO site that steals info from other sites, like Wikipedia, without proper attribution. For stars on the Walk of Fame, use the official Hollywood Chamber of Commerce site, or other Credible & Verifiable sites. IP4240207xx (talk) 04:54, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of cleanup needed

[edit]

This article's in a bit of a mess; lots of POV material, lack of references, and a lack of structure. I'll have a go at doing a more comprehensive edit, but I've just made two immediate changes:

  • Removed the filmography, as it had been copied and pasted from IMDB. This is a copyright violation, and also included way too much detail for a Wikipedia article. Knight's acting career is definitely worthy of note in the article (and does get discussed in the body), but a copyright violation isn't the way to do it.
  • Integrated the mention of Knight singing at Michael Jackson's funeral into the body text. Gusworld (talk) 22:10, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Empress of Soul ?

[edit]

What's this 'Empress of Soul' nonsense in the 1st paragraph and the info-box? I'm a Gladys fan, but I've never heard of this. 91.107.203.214 (talk) 18:56, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's been bantered for years. A lone editor adds it ever few months, and complains enough that everyone else eventually just lets it slide. It's one aspect of Wikipedia I hate. Bytebear (talk) 01:32, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I went to the same high school as Gladys and grew up in the same community and I can't believe you failed to mention Her film "Pipe Dreams" with her then husband Barry. Also the chronology of her children and early career is all wrong. This article should be cleaned up before she sees it.Oldpanther (talk) 12:55, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Discovering The Jackson 5

[edit]

Hey all,

On the page for the Jackson 5's debut album, Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5, it says Gladys Knight and Bobby Taylor discovered the Jackson 5. Should this not be mentioned somewhere in the article?

Number of Grammys

[edit]

The Masked Singer is wrong. Knight did not win ten Grammys. They incorrectly added up Grammy awards and noms for Knight and for Knight & the Pips - if you look at the page for Knight, it includes all the ones with the Pips as well. If you add them up, you're adding duplicates. Her own bio on her website (as of last week - I can't get it to load right now) said that she was a 7-time winner. TheHYPO (talk) 03:14, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: Confirmed [1](her website) confirms: "This seven-time Grammy winner has enjoyed #1 hits in Pop, Gospel, R&B and Adult Contemporary, and has triumphed in film, television and live performance." TheHYPO (talk) 04:42, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Missing text in Early life section

[edit]

There seems to be text missing between:

The group settled on the name The Pips, inspired by the nickname of their cousin James "Pip" Woods. Later on, Brenda and Eleanor left.

and

Later in 1961, the quintet released the single "Letter Full of Tears", which became another top-40 hit in early 1962. After releasing a string of singles on Fury Records, Langston George left the group in 1962.

The second part mentions “another” top-40 hit. But there is no mention of earlier hits. It also mentions Langston George leaving but he was never introduced as a member in the first place. Lumdeloo (talk) 18:38, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
