Article title
[edit]What is the reason for chsnging this article title to 'Hamble-Le-Rice'?
Although that is the name given by the local parish council, it's not the common name in use by those who travel to the village. Pigeonshouse 14:24, 16 July 2005 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it's the official name, it is what is used on all the signposts. Also it could otherwise be confused with the actual River Hamble.
- Looks to me like a recent rebadging. On the 1870 map at Old Maps, Hamble is the village and Hamble Le Rice the parish (the latter appears to be still the case [1]). It's also Hamble on the old road maps I have to hand - 1927, 1963 and 1988 - and certainly plain Hamble is still in common use [2]. Tearlach 13:58, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
- As a resident of Hamble, I can tell you it was an unpopular move by the parish council a few years ago to make it sound a bit more upmarket - because "It's what it used to be called". In that case, I think the parish council should refer to London as "Londinium", since that's what it used to be called... Stupid...
- As a resident of Hamble-le-Rice, I quite like it ;) Fact is, it's the official name of the village, and WP should only be interested in reporting the facts fo the matter. I've added a reference to previous names of the village for completeness. Srpnor 08:26, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
- As an ex resident I am glad I moved away before it was re-badged. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.47.132.75 (talk) 10:50, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
Parish?
[edit]In which parish? 2602:304:CDA6:51B0:3DCD:90C:725A:94CA (talk) 17:05, 28 June 2015 (UTC)
- @2602:304:CDA6:51B0:3DCD:90C:725A:94CA and 2602:304:CDA6:51B0:3DCD:90C:725A:94CA: Good point. Hamble-le-Rice is a civil parish in its own right; I've now added that to the lead. WaggersTALK 14:15, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
