Facts

please provide sources for "a member of the 100 most outstanding academic institutions" and "top ranked" universities. Okinawasan 10:59, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm new to wikipedia so I'm not sure if these links are sufficient, but I hope this helps. For Hebrew University's 2006 rankings from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Institute of Higher Education: http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2006/ARWU2006_Top100.htm (links to the rankings are also available from the University's homepage: http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/en/index.htm). For webometrics' rankings (places Hebrew University at 30 in Europe): http://www.webometrics.info/top100_continent.asp?cont=europe AvielD 20:43, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the link to Newsweek, i have added the proper citation. Did you also find some information about the "Top Ranking" from Israel's Council for Higher Education? Okinawasan 21:00, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the dispute about the ranking is resolved, some of you remove the tag. --Pejman47 20:34, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The dispute about the "top ranking" is not resolved, no sources have been identified. Please do not delete the tag, provide the proper sources or delete the statement. Thank you. Okinawasan 07:30, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
In future, when a single statement is disputed, please use one of the inline templates so it doesn't look like the entire article is being disputed. nadav (talk) 07:48, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Land of Israel" to Palestine

[edit]

I changed the opening sentence under "History" from "One of the Zionist movement's dreams was to establish a Hebrew university in The Land of Israel." to "One of the Zionist movement's dreams was to establish a Hebrew university in Palestine." I did this to make it factually and historically accurate, since this idea was first conceptualized prior to the creation of Israel. This also makes it easier for one to follow the linear history of it's establishment in comparison to the time-period. It also helps avoid any confusion from Zionist ideaology and non-partisan history.

not true. The land of Israel is a seperate concept from Israel the country. It has always existed there even before the modern re-establishment of the Jewish state. --86.135.218.10 (talk) 16:09, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not true it indicates an ongoing occupation and you mean a pre assumption that there was a piece of land ruled by the people and faded out 3000 years ago maybe (no its Palestine and it will always be Palestine and this occupied Jursalem under international law) you dont come and profess your old testmant propheices we sre talking about facts on the ground Palestine is occupied and has been for the last for decades you wanna call it Icecream based on ur testmant go ahead you want to brign an occupation and illegal settlers to committe genocide, occupation and apartheid ...think again. 91.129.106.100 (talk) 20:34, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Four campuses

[edit]

I have never heard of the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry at Hadassah being referred to as a separate campus. Is there any source for this? Does a building in a hospital complex classify as a campus? In all the literature I have seen, HUJI speaks of two campuses in Jerusalem and one in Rehovot.--Gilabrand 10:39, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ein kerem is a separate campus (see [1]). Rami R 11:08, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Hujilogo.gif

[edit]

Image:Hujilogo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Einstein's name trademarked by Hebrew Uni?

[edit]

I have here a toy that my colleagues bought for my little daughter. The toy is made by the "Baby Einstein Company, LLC". Down the bottom of the packaging it says:

"EINSTEIN and ALBERT EINSTEIN are trademarks of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. All Rights Reserved"

Surely not! Can anyone confirm? - Tbsdy lives (talk) 06:08, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That is quite possible. Einstein donated all his archives & papers to the Hebrew University, so they may have exclusive rights over his image.--Gilabrand (talk) 06:32, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Apparently yes (and presumably for comm

ercial uses only). See Einstein trademark licensees. For further information you may wish to write to HUJ Public Relations Department. --Zlerman (talk) 06:39, 29 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Related non-profit organization. Unclear how it is significant enought to warrant separate article. --Shuki (talk) 06:28, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Early Founders

[edit]

On this page, no credit is given to any of the early founders of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, such as Immanuel Velikovsky. There is also no discussion of his papers, Scripta Universitatis Atque Bibliothecae Hierosolymitanarum. Albert Einstein gets almost all credit for supporting the University, when in fact Velikovsky is the one who enlisted Einstein to help. Whatishere (talk) 23:51, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

attacks

[edit]

there have been at least 3 terrorist attacks against this university. these attacks should be at least listed here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.27.59.225 (talk) 01:08, 21 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Student Housing

[edit]

I suggest the addition of a Student Housing section. Topics could address the Idelson/Bronfman and Meirsdorf/Reznik confusion, approximate prices for dormitory housing on all campuses, and the resources avaliable on campus (lounge, computer room, day care, groceries, the bar in the Student Village, etc.). I definitely could have used this information as an incoming student, and it's quite hard to get to on the school website. Catchthedream (talk) 11:44, 22 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pronunciation/Transliteration

[edit]

So, I am still learning Hebrew. But I asked my teacher, native of Tel Aviv, how it's pronounced and she says אוניברסיטה is pronounced Oniversita and the preposition ב is be. Is that wrong? If so, why? Just curious. Thanks. --Chris S. (talk) 14:07, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The preposition is basically בְּ־ (be-), but in the standard language בְּ־ (be-) + יְ־ (ye-) = בִּי (bi). In the colloquial language it may be pronounced beye, but it's not consistent and not very well described, so i prefer to stick to the standard.
אוניברסיטה is definitely אוּנִיבֶרְסִיטָה (universita) according to dictionaries. See, for example, the Academy's Hebrew Terms site and Morfix. Some Israelis pronounce an [o], but it's definitely non-standard. (See my user talk page for a bit more detailed reply.) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:58, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Picture in lead

[edit]

I propose that the picture in the lead should be removed. Pictures generally don't go in leads, and makes the text format look awkward. I'd say it should go someplace else in the article, but not much else room, and there's already a picture of that campus. --Activism1234 03:05, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioning Nature Parks and Galleries to the Edmund J. Safra section

[edit]

Hi,

I've written an article Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/The Nature Park & Galleries, which specify the exhibits and works done by the Nature Parks and Galleries (NPG, שדרות טבע וגלריות) in the Edmund J. Safra campus. So far it wasn't approved as an independent article. Instead, I was advised to add it here, under the Edmund J. Safra campus section. Since I'm in COI with this article (as I decalred in my profile Mikicook), I wouldn't like to do it myself, but rather recommend it to be done by someone else. I'd love to assist in any way about this sections or others (if I could). Mikicook 19:41, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oldest university in Israel?

[edit]

It says it is the oldest university in Israel but so does the wikipedia page on Technion.. So which is it, HUJ or Technion? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:645:8101:391E:84B1:1196:F47A:C260 (talk) 17:51, 17 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Source for "15 Nobel Laureates"?

[edit]

I was looking for a source of the "15 Nobel Laureates" that is cited in the lede of this article, and have been unable to find one. The official university only lists 7 Nobel laureates (and 2 Fields medalists). My understanding is that there should probably be several more people who are associated with this university as undergraduate or graduate students, but I cannot seem to find a direct source with those kinds of affiliations. By this press release from 2005, it confirms 5 of the Nobel laureates, and also seems to confirm that four of those people are not current professors at Hebrew University.

Although there is one website that does seem to also confirm 15 laureates, it appears that the text is ripped directly from this very Wiki. The most confusing source is another wikipedia article, where it seems to claim that Hebrew University has had 8 Nobel Econ Laureates since 2000, which I have not been able to find confirmation for yet. I would love to put a reputable source behind this claim!
