move this to isovaleric acid? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.104.118.88 (talk) 02:31, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No need. The article uses the preferred IUPAC name and there is a redirect for both Isovaleric acid and Isovalerate. Michael D. Turnbull (talk) 11:58, 6 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

3-Methylbutanoic acidIsovaleric acid – Per the older discussion above, the WP:COMMONNAME does appear to be isovaleric acid, per Google, CAS, Sigma-Aldrich, and PubChem. It should be moved to that name per WP:OCHEMNAME. The proposed title is consistent with articles for related compounds, such as butyric acid rather than butanoic acid (redirect) and isobutyric acid rather than isobutanoic acid (redirect) or 2-methylpropanoic acid (redirect). Despite my comment in 2020, I am happy to accept the WP:COMMONNAME argument, although I don't see it as a necessary move given the availability of redirects. Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:00, 31 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
