No discussion here?
[edit]I'm surprised there is no discussion here about this guy and his activities either in Germany or Canada.
What sort of press coverage has he had in Germany? Do Germans know what this guy has been up to in Canada for the past few years?
Why does most, or all Canadian coverage of Schreiber not mention that he holds Canadian citizenship and residency?
Check the German version of Wikipedia - which, with a gloss will refer to him as Karlheinz Writer . The CBC tends to have the best post coverage - politics, fifth estate, national and cpac the best videos

Source?
[edit]Is there a source for the following assertion? "However, it is becoming clear that the governing Conservative party, as well as key elements within the opposition Liberal party, do not want Schreiber to testify, and instead indeed want him to be extradited to Germany. If this occurs, it would make the announcement of an inquiry appear to be disingenuous, and would most likely not meet with approval with the Canadian public."
If in fact it is "clear" that the Conservatives and many Liberals want Schreiber to be extradited before he testifies, then there should be no problem citing appropriate sources.
There was a committee meeting (ethics committee?) where a motion to have Schrieber testify before it was shot down (ruled "out of order" or something like that) by a liberal, and a fellow liberal (the guy who put forward the motion) was really pissed off and swore. This happened prior to Nov 21 (but probably after nov 14).
Also, is it not just a bit odd that almost all of the article deals with Canadian issues and reactions, with only scant mention of his alleged German activities? The latter include alleged fraud, alleged evasion of income tax on the equivalent of $46 million in income and a role in the 1999 slush-fund scandal. Seems like a very Canada-centric POV. Turns out the unsourced statement was added by an unregistered user (just an IP address). I removed it.
And I put it back in, because there is clearly something about Schrieber that even some Liberals don't want to come out. It took a speaker's warrant to keep him from being extradited - the liberal-led ethics committee didn't want to excercise their own power to keep him in Canada. If the liberals were completely clean with regard to Schriber, they would have gotten him to testify in some venue back when Creitien or Martin was the PM. Why didn't they?
I also wonder about the lack of sources for the following claim, inserted by the same unregistered user as part of the same edit:
On November 21, 2007, legal pundits interviewed on various Canadian network television news channels speculated that Schreiber would most likely be extradited during a clandestine "middle-of-the-night" series of flights from Toronto Island Airport, through the United States, and on to Germany. This would most likely happen within hours of a Supreme Court of Canada announcement that it will not hear Schreiber's final appeal.
That was on the CBC. It absolutely was talked about - they said that such extradition flights are common for the RCMP, and it would most certainly happen with Schrieber.
