Caldeira criticisms of IPCC & resignation, as reported in NY Times.
[edit]The current version in our article strikes me as not really a fair summary of the source. Here it is: New Directions for the Intergovernmental Climate Panel , a NY Times article which has several long quotes from KC.
The originally-posted version in his wikibio read:
- In 2011, Caldeira resigned as a lead author of an IPCC AR5 chapter. He commented to the New York Times: "Can anybody point to any important positive outcomes resulting from the IPCC AR4 process? Is there reason to expect a greater positive impact from the IPCC AR5 process?
- I am all for scientific reviews and assessments, and I think the multi-model comparisons reviewed by the IPCC have been especially useful. However, it is not clear how much additional benefit there is to having a huge bureaucratic scientific review effort under UN auspices..." [cited to Revkin's NYT article, linked above]
Revkin subsequently added an update from KC, which needs to be noted, but our current summary elides all his criticisms of the IPCC. Perhaps a 3rd party could make a try at a fair summary of his comments to the Times? Thanks, Pete Tillman (talk) 06:50, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- A fair summary would note Caldeira's clear balance of opinion, as is currently the case. Do you really think he wants this bio to go into misleading and excessive detail of his concerns that the IPCC needs strengthened to be as effective as he wants it to be? . . dave souza, talk 17:36, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- No, I think we need to follow the source, Dave -- unless you have another RS re this topic? Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:05, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- We follow the source to summarise Ken Caldeira's clear position, not cherry pick it to promote an agenda opposing his views: that's a clear BLP violation. . . dave souza, talk 07:25, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
