[edit]I know "tollbooth" was misspelled when used as a common noun, but was it also in error when used as a proper noun?
pronunciation
[edit]I changed the pronunciation to match the -shire article. Is that RP, and the IPA: [[kɪrˈkuːbri] we had here Scots? If so, it would be nice to have both. kwami 07:14, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
David Coulthard
[edit]I have removed the section about DC. To the best of my knowledge he grew up in Twynholm, his parents still live there and his museum is also there. I also see no reason why someone living in Kircudbright would travel to a tiny village to be schooled. Seems to me someone got their wires crossed and since there was no citation I removed this fact from the article. Feel free to restore this if a citation becomes available. --Delta-NC (talk) 12:34, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
Spelling
[edit]There are very many occurrences of the spelling "Kircudbright", including some in Wikipedia. It this to be considered correct? If so, can someone supply some info. on the etymology of the name? 109.150.47.213 (talk) 01:10, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

"around four miles (six kilometres) from the Irish Sea"
[edit]I am fairly confident that Kirkcudbright Bay would generally regarded as emerging into the Solway Firth rather than the Irish Sea JF42 (talk) 11:05, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
southwest of Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie
[edit]"The town lies southwest of Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie..."
This sentence is slightly misleading as it suggests that both Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie are on the Dee upstream of Kirkcudbright. Obviously a quick look at a map might correct this misapprehension but given that the map in the article would be of no help, it might be as well to adjust the text accordingly. John Spottiswoode, in his account of religious houses in Scotland, mentions that the Franciscans, or Grey Friars, had been established at Kirkcudbright from the 12th century.[5]
[edit]The Franciscan order was founded in 1209 - the early 13th century - so there were no Greyfriars in Kirkcudbright or anywhere else in the 12th century.
Francis himself lived 1181 - 1226 AD 82.37.115.53 (talk) 15:46, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
