Dates on Louis Gonzaga Mendez can't be right.
[edit]Article has him listed as USMA class of 1940, can't be he would have been 35, no way he would have made battalion commander two years latter. Also date of service should include West Point time i.e. 1936.

I've been looking but you need a Collum number to get into the alumni lists at West Point. Do we have an editor who graduated from the Military Academy? I know that Arlington Cemetary has him listed as class of '40.

- Qaemul, I agree with you all the way. As far as I'm concerned, it would make more sense if he grauated from the Academy in 1930 (There must be a typing mistake on the year). You would figure that he would have attended Command and General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces between 1930 and 1944. Then it would have made more sense that he was a LT. Col. when he made his Noramndy jump. There is absolutly no way that he could have made Lt. Col in 4 years. Tell you what, let's try to dig out some more info. and if we can't. I'll take my changes and rephrase the article in a why that it will make more sense. Tony the Marine 21:20, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
Still don't believe but rel="nofollow"rel="nofollow"http://defender.west-point.org/service/taps.mhtml and http://www.west-point.org/users/usma1940/12169/ have him as class of 1940. Still don't believe it. The army started promoting rapidly in the late thirties but these were mostly senior officers. Still he was only twenty-five in 1940 so consider the issue closed. It would be nice to snag his service record and check out all those promotions. The obit online at west-point.org looks like the one referenced in the current article. Hey I did find his Cullum number which is an essential piece of trivia for all USMA grads.
