[edit]Is this article really needed alongside Law enforcement in Finland? The interwiki links of that article actually link to "Police of Finland" in the Finnish Wikipedia. --Pudeo' 00:29, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
POV
[edit]@Hydrox: Thanks for explaining in your edit summary, but I don't see any POV in the edits to this article. The only problem was one unreliable source, that I have found a replacement for. Can you point out what is POV in the edits made to this article in your opinion? – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 20:09, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Finnusertop: This is supposed to be an article on the police force of Finland. The article, before edits by the user, constituted of exactly two paragraphs, a bunch of insignia and an infobox. After the edits, the article constitutes mostly of detailed explanations of recent media statements by the police, something about some events in Cologne and refugees, and pretty hyperbolic statement about what some officer supposedly said on social media. How is this relevant for a neutral encyclopedia article on the whole police force, if you consider due weight? --hydrox (talk) 20:21, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Hydrox: This is a very new and underdeveloped article; virtually any addition of content will result in an article that (temporarily) gives undue weight to some aspects. The additions were characterized by recentism, but I think if this was a full fledged article, at least some of those could be counted under a "Recent history" section. All of this is based on accurate reporting and has resulted in major public debate in Finnish mainstream media, so we're not dealing with fringe views here. The problem is how, and not whether, to incorporate it here. I suggest returning the removed content but tag the section for Template:Undue section, for now, for the reason you mentioned above. – Finnusertop (talk ⋅ contribs) 20:35, 15 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Finnusertop: I don't want to pick a fight about this – I still find the article pretty POV after such additions but if you think so too you outnumber me, so feel free to restore the content. --hydrox (talk) 20:49, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

English equivalent police ranks
[edit]Can anyone say why the specific UK equivalent police ranks shown in the article have been chosen? For example, why jump from Sergeant straight to Chief Inspector, missing out Inspector? If there's a good reason (official translation by the police themselves, for example) then that's OK, but if not I will propose altering them as follows, based on the usual UK progression, which is constable [Nuorempi konstaapeli] - senior constable (an Australian rank not used in UK) [Vanhempi konstaapeli] - sergeant [Ylikonstaapeli] - inspector [Komisario] - chief inspector [Ylikomisario] - superintendent [Poliisitarkastaja] - (chief superintendent [no equivalent]) - assistant chief constable [Apulaispoliisipäällikkö] - deputy chief constable [Poliisiylitarkastaja] - chief constable [Poliisipäällikkö]. There is historical context for chief constable being subordinate to commissioner, as the Metropolitan Police have used chief constable as a rank approximately equivalent to their present day rank of commander, so I don't suggest changing the English equivalent of the two most senior ranks. - It's been almost a year with no response so I have edited the page changing the English names for ranks as I proposed.
- Feel free to revert if you have good reason to do so. Rossh1 (talk) 05:12, 27 December 2022 (UTC)
