Literal meaning
[edit]German Wikipedia says the Ottoman Turkish word سگبان sekban means 'dog-keeper'. There's no source for this, but Turkish Wikipedia agrees with the meaning (without giving the Arabic script), saying it comes from Farsi seg-ban which seems plausible, and cites Britannica 15th edition. Unfortunately I don't have access to that source. Hairy Dude (talk) 13:24, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
