As a current student, I don't feel comfortable adding these myself, but I'd like for someone to add a section involving the school's history. Some notable things I think warrant a mention in said section include the following (links to sources provided in no particular order):
- Its founding in 2005 [1][2]
- The 2016 "bathroom incident" which got a coach fired and involved human trafficking [3][4][5][6][7][8][9]
- How it was impacted by Hurricane Ian [10][11]
- Those times it was swatted
- Those times kids brought guns and were arrested
Thanks for your consideration.
- ^ Fun fact: That black girl in the last one was in my debate class; she was fun!
- ^ Not-so-fun fact: I was briefly considered a suspect before the cops learned I left my phone at home that day
- ^ I vaguely remember a video of the armed student running away from the cops going the rounds on Instagram or Snapchat, but couldn't find it

- Not done for now: Please include your proposed text and where you want it included, instead of just citations. Rusalkii (talk) 07:01, 12 July 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, then. Hope you don't mind if I add a couple things I found while researching and remove a couple things I've realized aren't really all that notable. Turns out...
- I hadn't gotten the whole story concerning the bathroom incident
- Students getting arrested for gun threats disturbingly often (especially in Lee County), therefore making those three aforementioned arrests not that notable, at least in my eyes.
- Anyways, here's the text.
- ==History==
- South Fort Myers High School was established in 2005, partially built on condemned land bought by the school district the year prior.[1] Reportedly, its first employee was one Grant Redhead, a former offensive coordinator at Cypress Lake High School brought on as the school's head football coach; under his 10-year leadership, the Wolf Pack would win 5 district championships.[2]
- In 2009, it became the first school in Lee County to have its automotive academy certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.[3]
- ===Sex scandal===
- On May 17, 2016, a 15-year-old female student had sex with several male students in one of the school's bathrooms after hours.[4][5] According to a statement the girl made to administrators, she had been a past victim of human trafficking and only reluctantly went along with it after being pressured by the men.[6] Video of the events was filmed by some of those involved, which was then posted to Snapchat and spread across the school.[7][8]
- After the incident, five students were suspended and a football player named William Scott was arrested.[9] He would be charged on counts of cruelty towards a child, allowing a child to engage in a sexual act, and possession of obscene material and entered into a diversion program.[10]
- Anthony Dixon, who had been named head coach earlier that school year, was almost suspended due to "his failure to adequately supervise students" which led to the event,[11] but following backlash,[12] he was merely reassigned to James Stephens International Academy as a teacher's aide.[13]
- ===Hurricane Ian===
- During Hurricane Ian, South Fort Myers High School was one of several schools temporarily converted into an emergency shelter.[14] Its football field was used as a landing pad for helicopters rescuing those stranded on Sanibel and other nearby islands.[15]
- ===Swattings===
- On September 16, 2022, the Lee County Police Department received a hoax call stating that 20 children had been shot at the school[16][17] as part of a "national swatting event".[18] This resulted in not only South Fort Myers High, but also Cypress Lake High being put on lockdown, while all other schools in Lee County were searched "out of an abundance of caution".[19] Another swatting would take place on December 7 of the same year, which also targeted North Fort Myers High School.[20][21] ZionniThePeruser (talk) 14:38, 12 July 2024 (UTC)

- Partly done: Added history. I am not convinced that all of the news-item type sections are WP:DUEWEIGHT, but being a student isn't really relevantly a COI here imo so you should feel free to use your judgment re:adding the other information. Rusalkii (talk) 19:21, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
