Taryana

Taryana or Tariana was an achaemenid and elamite city in southwestern Iran (Persia) which was located in the current city of Ahvaz.

The history of Taryana dates back to about 500 BC.

Ardeshir Popakan (Ardeshir I), the founder of the Sassanid empire, rebuilt Taryana and expanded it along the ancient river Ulai and changed the name of the city to Hormuz Ardeshir, which later changed to Daravashir and after that to Ramshahr or Ramshir and to the following names:
