[edit]- ... that a clay tablet at the National Museum of Iraq dated to c. 1770 BCE shows a calculation that uses the Pythagorean theorem, twelve centuries prior to the birth of Pythagoras? Source: "The solution b=1, a=0.75 is proved correct by computing the areas of squares with the corresponding side-lengths, adding these areas, and computing the side-length of the square with the resulting area, that is, by taking the square root. This is an application of the Pythagorean theorem, c=sqrt(a^2+b^2), and the result agrees with the given value, c=1.25." Sources: J. Høyup, Lengths, Widths and Surfaces. - Comment: It would be nice to include a photograph of the tablet, but I have not been able to find any with an appropriate license.

- @Will Orrick: This article is new enough and long enough. The hook facts are cited inline, the article is neutral and I detected no copyright issues. No QPQ is needed. Please could you incorporate a date for Pythagoras' birth (with an inline citation) into the article. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:49, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
- I have added the information and an inline citation about the date of Pythagoras' birth into the article (it's the last sentence in IM_67118#Significance). RebeccaGreen (talk) 21:30, 22 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. This is now good to go. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 17:48, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
- As Cwmhiraeth has not formally ticked this nomination, a reviewer is needed to check and, if appropriate, give it a final tick. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:25, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. I forgot to add the formal tick. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 05:11, 4 July 2019 (UTC)
