Name: Andy Connolly Born: February 1981 From: Wallsend, Tyne & Wear. The end of the Roman Wall! Lives: Somerset Occupation: Indirect Tax Consultant, dealing primarily with VAT.
In my time in employment I have worked for Currys, B&Q, and Halfords in retail sales positions. After graduating from university I sold insurance for The AA, before moving to the Inland Revenue (working during its transition into Revenue & Customs) looking National Insurance for self employed peopl, and then to P&G, where I worked as a VAT Accountant, handling VAT, Intrastat, and EC Sales List declarations. Following on from my time at P&G I moved on to another large multinational in the form of the Mexican cement manufacturer CEMEX where I was an Indirect Tax Analyst, continuing my specialism in Indirect Taxes. Then in the summer of 2008 I finally moved into practice, joining the VAT team at Armstrong Watson at their Hexham office. I then moved into a Big 4 firm in the form of Deloitte, before joining a smaller independent practice of VAT and Customs specialists in Stockport. Finally in 2013 I moved to Dubai to take up a taxation job with an aviation company, alongside my wife who had taken a job in Dubai.
I hold a particular interest in performance and modified cars, and have modified all cars I have owned in some way or another.
My other interest is photography, and I currently use a Nikon D90 with Nikkor VR lenses and a Nikon SB-600 flashgun. Previously I shot with a Fuji S9500, and the D90 is my first foray into using SLRs with interchangeable lenses. You can find some of my work on Wikimedia.
I also love travelling, and have visited most of the places on my “to see” list. My favourite location so far has been New York City, although my time in Bangalore was an eye opening experience. I have also visited most of Western European countries, and have visited Boston and Washington DC and enjoyed their sights immeasurably.
