Hi there!

Thanks for stopping by! Please feel free to leave messages on my talk page or send an email to tingyi[at]cis-india.org

I also have a user page in Chinese Wikipedia.

My name is Ting-Yi Chang (張庭翊), most of my friends also know me as Elisa. It is pronounced as "E-Lie-Za" (like Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady) not "a-Lisa." But don't worry, I will respond to both anyway.

Starbucks misspelling my name :(

I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan but moved to Canada in 2013 after graduating from high school. I am pursuing a BA in International Development Studies (Specialist), along with Major in Economics and Minor in Media Studies. It is a co-op(erative) program and I am currently fulfilling my 12-month long work term in India.

Fun facts about me

  • The first Wikipedia article I edited was about my high school.
  • In my first two years in university, I worked with Frontier College as a child literacy volunteer.
  • I have great interest in doodling things and people around me.
  • I was playing table tennis competitively during high school. After moving to Canada I started trying out different sports, including Quidditch and Ultimate Frisbee.
  • My favourite quote is from Augustine of Hippo

My Work

[edit]
Ting-Yi Chang at WikiConference India 2016

I am currently (2016 June- 2017 May) working as an intern at the Centre for Internet and Society, Bangalore for an action research on the Gender Gap issues in the Indian Wikipedia contexts. The research will be focusing on but not limited to the Wikipedia(media) projects; I believe more can be learned from other similar open source projects too.
Research Objective: To improve the understanding of the gender gap (imbalance) issue in Indian open source (including Wikimedia) communities while examining local interventions
Research Questions:

  1. What prevents Indian women from joining open knowledge/ open source projects and what motivates them?
  2. How are local interventions conducted to fix the gender gap(s)?
  3. What type(s) of intervention approach can encourage female participation in the various projects?

A tiny but strong ladybug

This action research is to collect and analyze women's (including experienced editors and newcomers) experience in interacting with the communities. The research process includes interviewing active women Wikipedians(medians) in various local communities, understanding the structure of conducting gender gap bridging interventions on the local level, as well as attending, coordinating, and learning from these interventions to help Wikipedias become a more friendly and welcoming place for all.

You can reach me at tingyi@cis-india.org to know more about my research.
