[edit]About Me
[edit]I don't usually like to talk about myself however I’ll try to share a little bit of myself, why not. Being first generation, I've taken on the responsibility to help family here in the U.S. and family back in Mexico. I immigrated to the west coast (California) when I was 6 and as years turn into decades it is very easy to forget sometimes where I came from. I still haven't forgotten though, and don't plan to. It is comforting to know this nation is built by immigrants from its founding days to its present day. I graduated from High School a couple of years ago and decided to take some time away from school and get my hands dirty in the "Blue Collar[1]" work field. Some work experience while I decide my next goal. Well, after many interesting experiences I've decided it’s time to focus on my studies to better myself and hopefully become a "White Collar[2]" worker since I hear the paychecks are thicker there. One project I'm working on is getting my “Associate in Business[3]” at a local community college. I understand it will take a couple of years, however it's a place to start towards having a white collar career in order to help my family here and in Mexico. Once that is taken care of, I’ll work on my next goal when I meet that bridge. Some of the things I like to do (if i ever have time) are traveling out of state, exercising to stay healthy (not trying to be in the olympics here) and would like to learn French and Russian language but haven't had the time. There are other interests however those are the main ones I barely have time for. Oh, I also love cousine[4], especially trying new cousine.
My Wikipedia Interests
[edit]Some Wikipedia interests I have is in doing the assignments my professor assigns first. I think it is a good idea to pass his class. Activities in Wikipedia might include correcting false facts, removing biased opinions, adding more facts, and possibly creating a page on something or someone that deserves it’s own page. Such as countries and cities I would like to travel to, interesting facts about that location, the type of delicious food they offer, historical or present events and important influential figures[5] to that location.
Article Evaluation
[edit]Back in my days, I was in a after school club called "M.E.Ch.A" to which I vaguely understood the purpose of back then. Now It sparked some curiosity so I visited the MEChA article on Wikipedia and stated "M.E.Ch.A. (Spanish: Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán; "Chicano Student Movement of Aztlán") is a US-based student organization that seeks to promote Chicano unity and empowerment through political action." It was fun chapter while in High School and inspirational to make improvements in my generation like the ones before me. I was able to find three aspects of it worth commenting on for improving the article: lack of citations, lack of up-to-date information, and article structure.
Citations
[edit]Although the U.S. based student political organization has been alive since the 1960's and activity from coast to coast, it is still important to cite claims such as "MEChA exists as over 400 loosely affiliated chapters within a national organization". Such a claim stating favorable outcomes deserves a reliable citation. Another crucial if not more important statement without citation is "MEChA was fundamental in the adoption of Chicano Studies programs and departments in academia". Both claims sound professional and are realistically possible however with accurate citations it will make it realistic.
Up-to-date Article
[edit]Another improvement on the MEChA article updates on current events or activities the organization is a part of. The most current up-to-date piece of information was on a debate within the organization in 2019 about a name change. Other than that, there is no new pieces of information especially for someone looking to become a member or is a new member.
Structure
[edit]Although the article does a great job at bringing perspective to the reader about the scale and activity of the organization, I see the structure of it leaning heavily towards being too favorable of it. Im confident it is a excellent organization with honorable members and no ill intentions, however it would be of more support if the article also included other organizations that are affiliated, inspired, collaborated with, or perhaps in rivalry with. It would help to bring a perspective of its influence.
Conclusion
[edit]Overall the article did a great job at explaining the foundations of the organization an its purpose. The improvements mentioned earlier would help bring clarity and perspective to a new reader who has never heard of the organization, a new member, or a person looking to become a new member however it does provide sufficient information for a general research assignment which can direct the reader in the right direction.
