Intellectual property attorney in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Wikipedia was vital in learning about other viewpoints growing up, breaking me free of the cultural and informational bubble I was raised up in.[a]Signed up after decades of non-editor use to join the communities improving the coverage of music genres, festivals, board games, barbershop quartets, flags, concerts, copyright law developments, virtual reality, and various oddities. I get the most joy from my time on this site when I am able to add a solid reference to an article that has none. Though I am not that old or wise regarding my editing time on Wikipedia, I do consider myself a combination of a WikiNecromancer and a WikiGnome;[b] I'm usually here spending free time after work patrolling random article pages that require minor edits to bring the page up to date, up to speed, and up to standards. My other time on Wikipedia is spent participating in reference-updating projects to bolster articles and confirm reliability, wikifying lightly-linked material, participating in discussion topics I have no stake in that still requires consensus, occasionally dumping a new article on the site, and getting lost for the night in a wiki rabbit hole.
This user is a member of WikiProject Wikify. There is currently a massive backlog of articles (27,709 articles) that need to be wikified, and we need your help! If you have a spare moment, please visit the project page and wikify an article, or tell your friends about the WikiProject.
^Interestingly, there does not appear to be an article on Wikipedia yet about growing up in an organic, offline "bubble". The most similar are probably Filter bubble, Ethnocentrism, and Echo chamber (media).
^WIkiSloth is another fauna I have been associated with for a certain reason: when I create a page, I have a tendency to conjure up a long and fully-sourced article behind the scenes outside of drafts, and post a thorough and complete article in one single edit... and then go about implementing minor random edits for weeks. However, I believe that anyone volunteering on Wikipedia identifying as another helpful WikiFauna spends a large chunk of time here for (at least partly) "hedonistic intellectual enjoyment," which is the main quality of a WikiSloth—so I do not identify as one as I believe it applies to all positive WikiFauna.
