Speedy deletion of Walter Luff

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Walter Luff requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Swinden Quarry railway station

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Swinden Quarry railway station, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Swinden Quarry railway station.

Kelbrook railway station

[edit]

You created the Kelbrook railway station article recently but did not add any references. I've looked for information about this and other stations on the line, and the book I added as a reference for the Earby railway station article lists the stations on the line but does not include Kelbrook as one of them, and I have looked at maps - npemap.org.uk and old-maps.co.uk - but could not find a station near Kelbrook. I have been unable to find anything to confirm of the existence of the station so do you have any ideas of where references could be found? --Snigbrook (talk) 23:02, 21 March 2008 (UTC) A1personage (talk) 17:23, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have two other books that ought to list this station if it existed, but they do not. Please state, on this page, where you discovered the existence of this station. --Dr Greg (talk) 11:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A1personage, I note you have not answered the above question, despite having made other edits to this page at a later date, so you must have read it. It can't be difficult, you must know the answer. It's quite possible that the books that Snigbrook and I consulted are incomplete, but we can't make a judgement on that unless you tell us what your source is. --Dr Greg (talk) 11:43, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just thought it was a station. I have no proof it exsisted. A1personage (talk) 21:24, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Does the same explanation apply to Cracoe railway station and Linton railway station? --Dr Greg (talk) 12:30, 11 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I came across the image that you have uploaded. Unfortunately, it didn't have any information on the license, so was going to be deleted. However, I have now fixed the image. To get more knowledge of uploading images I'd suggest looking at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, which has everything you need to know!! -- Arriva436shout! 17:22, 28 March 2008 (UTC) A1personage (talk) 17:23, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A few comments

[edit]

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thank you. Adambro (talk) 17:04, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Subcategories

[edit]

When an article is in a subcategory, e.g. Category:Buildings and structures in Preston, there's no need for it also to be in the parent category (e.g. in this case Category:Preston) unless there are special reasons for breaking this principle. Otherwise the parent categories just get clogged up with too many entries and there wouldn't be much point in having subcategories. (This refers to your recent edit to Preston bus station.)

I would also echo Adambro's point that it is important to provide an edit summary for every edit you make, as it helps other editors understand what you did and why you did it.

Finally it's important to provide references for material you add, especially when there might be doubt over its accuracy.

Keep up the good work, but please consider the above points to make life easier for your fellow editors! --Dr Greg (talk) 11:41, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Evans logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Evans logo.gif. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:00, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

An image that you uploaded, Image:Modern railways.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Copyright problems because it is a suspected copyright violation. Please look there if you know that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), and then provide the necessary information there and on its page, if you are interested in it not being deleted. Scanning a copyrighted image does not make you the originator of the image. --207.176.159.90 (talk) 02:37, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is a photograph, not a scan, but I agree, I think it is still copyrighted. It does appear to be valid non-free content, so I have added a rationale for it. The tags for non-free content are at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Regarding the image, Image:Preston park and ride.jpg, its licence appears to be non-commercial and I don't think it meets the non-free criteria as a free equivalent could be created. --Snigbrook (talk) 14:39, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Fleet Line.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Fleet Line.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:25, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Queen's_Arcade_Doctor_Who.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 10:06, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bury Bolton street 2.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Some of your recent edits

[edit]

Hi. A few of your recent edits have come up on my watchlist, and I thought I should give you some friendly advice. The most important thing to remember is the Wikipedia is not a news site, and is especially not a rail enthusiasts' new site. For instance, this incident is hardly earth-shattering and will likely be forgotten very quickly, so it doesn't merit a whole section of the Arriva Trains Wales article devoted to it. It definitely didn't merit inclusion on the July 19 article--which is why it was swiftly reverted. Also, just because you read something in Today's Railways, doesn't mean it's notable enough for inclusion in an encyclopaedia--the emphemeral bits of "fleet news" such as this are really not suitable.

I don't mean to be discouraging, but you might want to think about your edits a bit more carefully in future. Thanks, --RFBailey (talk) 14:23, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A1personage (talk) 14:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First, you should read the notability criteria--these are general guidelines for what is, and isn't, suitable for including in Wikipedia. Have a read of What Wikipedia is not (particularly this bit) as well. As for railway articles in particular, for example, that London Midland have a fleet of Class 158s is notable, that a particular example was sent to a particular works on a particular date for a repaint isn't. As for notability of incidents, if it has had (or is likely to have) long-term repercussions, then it should be included; something that happens fairly often (train colliding with vehicle on level crossing at relatively low speed, not derailing, and with very few injuries) isn't. What incident in February are you referring to?
If you have a more specific question about an addition you want to make, don't hestitate to ask me, or at this page. Thanks, --RFBailey (talk) 15:09, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

British Rail Class 442

[edit]

You class 442 diagram in Gatwick Express livery is not particularly accurate and as the trains are still being refurbished, I think that it is inappropriate to put such a picture up. “A close-up of the intermediate carrages” - not a good close up and does not show any detail clearly. You may also want to use a spell check before posting other information. “Two class 442s coupled together to form a 10 car unnit, not a un-common sight on services to Weymouth” - we already have clearer pictures, without shadows on the page in the same livery, so why would we want another one. Also, not an un-common sight! The trains haven’t been down there for at least 15 months! The same applies for the next 2 pictures with already having better, similar view pictures. Wikipedia is not a picture gallery or a rail forum, which is where this sort of material belongs.

Ashley.f5 (talk) 15:06, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A1personage (talk) 17:56, 8 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On the 442 page, you said "but heavy work is required as most of the off lease units haven't got standard parts. 442409 is a doubt being at Ashford Chart Leacon and having a lot of parts taken out of it and being used as a donar for spares". 442409 and 442416 are the only units not to have standard parts and therefore not the majority. 442409 is eventually going to be brought back into service and this comes from a source of high level management. Also, the picture change would be nice if it would display. For some reason, and as far as I can see the coding is correct, the picture just does not display on the main page, even though it does show after clicking on it for an enlarged version. Therefore it was reverted back to the previous picture. Ashley.f5 (talk) 10:55, 12 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Cracoe railway station

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Cracoe railway station, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. Can you provide a citation for the information you added in this edit? Cheers. Adambro (talk) 16:29, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The information you need, is underneath the table. It is also available in Modern Railways, RAIL and Today's Railways. This should be all the information you need. A1personage (talk) 16:33, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again, I've moved your comment back here to make it easier to follow since I'm watching this page anyway. There really needs to be citations in the table rather than just elsewhere in the article because otherwise it isn't clear what is cited and what isn't. I don't have a copy of any of the magazines you list so I can't add the required refs including which issue it is, page numbers etc. Please add an inline ref for the number of Class 150 and Class 180 units, where they are being cascaded from, and, in the case of the 180, that it might be subleased from NXEC. Thanks. Adambro (talk) 16:49, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A1personage (talk) 16:52, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This source doesn't seem to state that Northern will be getting 24 150s from LM. Adambro (talk) 17:08, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
All the information for the table that I made, is from the paragraph just underneath it. I put the table there just to give a simplified version of the paragraph. It made sense to me, and to other people that I have just asked, so please are sources that are already there, really necessary on a table that was just there as a simplified version with pictures. That isn't true though, the paragraph below doesn't mention Class 150s, nor does the source you cite as doing so. It is essential that it is clear where information has come from, if there aren't references in the table then it isn't clear and if it isn't clear where information comes from then it'll find itself removed. Hi. Hartwood (Lancashire) railway station is at AfD because there appears to be no evidence for its existence. Where did you read about the railway station? SilkTork *YES! 19:53, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A1personage (talk) 11:58, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I see you've read my note. I'm now concerned that you haven't responded with an indication of where you found the information. There are indications that you have created other articles on stations that appear not to have existed. I'd be interested in hearing your side of the story. Do you have access to documents that have limited accessibility, but which indicate the existence of these stations? Please get back to me. Regards SilkTork *YES! 12:43, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hartwood (lancashire)

[edit]

on reading some information on the Blackburn to Chorley line, i must have miss read the passage about the railway line going through the area. The evidence in this text that i read did indicate a station at Hartwood, however i cannot find any more information on it, so it must not of existed. A1personage (talk) 23:06, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting back to me. That clears that up! A strong suggestion - when creating a new article in future please make sure you have a reference to support the article, and that you put the reference in the article. Regards SilkTork *YES! 00:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Searching for a high-Quality Picture LRV Tram

[edit]

Dear Madam or Sir,

I randomly found your website while searching for a picture. We are looking for high-quality pictures from the LRY Manchester Tram 3001 built by Bombardier Transportation and Vossloh Kiepe, to use them for our new calender. See also http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Metrolink_New_Livery_on_Both_Trams.jpg

You can find the older calenders 2007 - 2009 here: http://www.voithturbo.de/vt_de_akt_beudo_kalender.htm

Please let me know, if you know a good picture that could fit in our calender or a person that has a good picture of the tram.

Thank you for your time,

Felix

Proposed deletion of M & M Coaches

[edit]

The article M & M Coaches has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:N and WP:ORG as it hasn't been the subject of discussion in multiple, reliable sources and it has not signifantly impacted its industry.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ThemFromSpace 01:50, 13 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated M & M Coaches, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/M & M Coaches. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on York Designer Outlet, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:56, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Leeds Wikipedia meetup on Saturday 4th May

[edit]

Hello there! Interested in having a chat with fellow Wikipedians? There's a meetup in Leeds on Saturday 4th May 2024, at the Tiled Hall Café at Leeds Central Library.

Full details here.

You're receiving this one-off message as you're either a member of WikiProject Yorkshire, you've expressed an interest in a previous Leeds meetup years ago, or (for about 4 of you), we've met :)

I plan to organise more in future, so if you'd like to be notified next time, please say so over on the meetup page.

Please also invite any Wikimedia people you know (or have had wiki dealings with) – spread the word! Hope to see you there.
