Havana Bound moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Havana Bound, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. –MJLTalk 06:29, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Amirhosein Izadi, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your additions to Private Sorrow have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are PD or compatibly licensed) it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions, the help desk or the Teahouse before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:51, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the song articles that you are creating for the Pretty Things fail the notability guidelines of WP:NSONG and will be redirected. Copying text from AllMusic is a copyright violation and by law must be removed immediately from Wikipedia. The other sources that you are using fail WP:RS – personal blogs, YouTube, etc. are not acceptable as reliable sources. The song must have been covered in detail by a reliable source such as a newspaper or music magazine journalist. Thank you. Richard3120 (talk) 18:25, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, مادر (ترانه حبیب)

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, مادر (ترانه حبیب). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Mother (Habib Song). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Mother (Habib Song). If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. – John M Wolfson (talkcontribs) 06:05, 10 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Garage rock portal

[edit]

Hello Amirhosein Izadi, I've been really busy with work lately and didn't get a chance to see your message until tonight (sorry!), but I looked at the Garage rock portal you created and think it looks really spectacular. I'm guessing that the problem that some of the editors have with it is that they don't think that any rock subgenre meets the minimum criteria specified by Wikipedia, in terms of size and scope, for receiving a full portal, particularly s subgenre as specialist as garage rock. I'm not sure that even more well-known and commercial subgenres like heavy metal have a portals, but I'd have to check. I'd have to read up on the Wikipedia rules concerning portals before getting involved in that discussion. I wouldn't want to take a position that runs contrary to Wiki criteria, because I have learned from hard experience that it is a futile battle. However, your portal looks absolutely beautiful.

I know that may not be as spectacular, but we do have the Garage rock taskforce, that though smaller, serves a similar purpose. If it is not possible to retain or merge your portal, then we could certainly work to improve the taskforce site—I think you have a knack for graphics and could be of great help. Keeping the basic features we have there, we could improve the graphics to achieve a more sophisticated look and perhaps add extra content to enhance that page.

I am grateful your interest in garage rock and thank you for putting in all of that work. I look forward to working together in the future. Garagepunk66 (talk) 05:47, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the answer. Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 07:58, 29 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm saddened to see that the portal got deleted. I put in a vote to merge (if I had voted to "keep", no one would have listened to me). I thought everyone could at least reach a consensus to merge it, which would have provided a perfectly acceptable alternative venue to retain the things you created, but unfortunately such a decision did not turn out to be the case. I'm not happy about that outcome at all, and I think you deserved something better. Garagepunk66 (talk) 05:15, 7 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Iranian rock in the 60s

[edit]

I've heard that there was a lot of great music made in Iran in the 60s/early 70s. I've enjoyed some fantastic compilations such as Persian Underground[1], Pomegranites[2], and another one posted on Youtube [3]. I can imagine that Tehran was really swingin'! Garagepunk66 (talk) 04:39, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Garagepunk66. I'm really glad you care about this music. Rock music existed in Iran in the mid-60s, but its popularity and mainstream began in the late 60s. I found in the book Basement music that rock was the favorite music of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, king of Iran. (Of course, Mohammad Reza Shah has always hidden this interest.) The most popular rock subgenres in Iran were Psychedelic Rock, which you can hear in the same works, especially the works of Kourosh Yaghmaei. Tehran changed completely in the late 60s and became the center of Iranian rock music. Other major Iranian cities, including Abadan (where the most successful Iranian rock band before the revolution, the Son Soul Brothers, formed). Thanks again for your attention to Iranian rock music before the 1979 revolution. Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 06:28, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I never realized that the Shah dug rock! That seems pretty interesting for a monarch of that era. But, of course, I'm sure he had his problems−otherwise there wouldn't have been a revolution—I can imagine that there have been both pros and cons of the pre- and post- revolution governments (just as we in the US have had our ups and downs over the years). I would love to see the US have a better relationship with your country—it's high time. I'll have to check out Yaghmaei and the Son Soul Brothers. Incidentally, India had a huge garage and psychedelic movement in the 1960s (and even into the early 1970s after it had gone out of style here in the US). Garagepunk66 (talk) 05:52, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, Mohammad Reza Shah, according to his wife Farah Pahlavi, always hid interest in rock music and invited Iranian rock bands to the palace to perform for him. Iranian Revolution had many reasons, from the traditionalism of the middle class to the mistakes of Mohammad Reza Shah himself. The governments of Mohammad Reza Shah also had their pros and cons, such as Amir-Abbas Hoveyda (dramatic economic growth and strained relations with the USSR) and Asadollah Alam (White Revolution and excessive conservatism) just like the United States. The Iranian revolution ended 40 years ago and unfortunately still has bad effects on Iran, such as bad relations with the United States (burning the flag in parliament, dying in the United States, etc.). I would like to see Iran-US relations again as good as the era of Mohammad Reza Shah (though at the same time Mohammad Reza Shah was not so good with the United States) Rolling Stone Magazine has written an article about Kourosh Yaghmaei.[4] But I don't think Son Soul Brothers are known outside of Iran. Indian rock music (which influenced English and American rock) had a great impact on Iranian rock. In the late 1960s, Abbas Mehrpouya (who was a student of Ravi Shankar) returned to Iran and began to create deeply psychedelic songs with the formation of the rock band Black Jungle. Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 08:08, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Last night, after you gave me the recommendation (thank you!), I listened to some songs by Kourosh Yaghmaei and was deeply moved and impressed. His melodies are so beautiful and, looking at a translation of the lyrics, his words are equally incredible. Truly a major talent who should have become a household name all over the world, including here in the West. We need to do some work on his English Wikipedia article, which needs a lot of work.[5] I don't know how to read Persian, but perhaps you could translate some of info from the Persian article[6] onto the English page. And, of course we could find some good sources. Garagepunk66 (talk) 02:53, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, Kourosh Yaghmaei article on Farsi Wikipedia is also not in a good position and it only and unnecessary content. Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 10:57, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Starting today, I will be working on albums, singles and articles related to Kourosh Yaghmaei.Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 13:26, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's great. It'll be a big improvement to have a buildup with those articles. Perhaps in time you could eventually re-write his Persian bio article with better sources and info. and after that, of course, we could import all of those items to the American bio article. But, in the meantime having more representation in the singles and albums would be a big advancement. You're right that those are the best places to start, because after that, once those things are in place, it will be much easier to re-do the main article. You've really turned me on to Kourosh Yaghmaei. I want to learn how to properly pronounce his name, so that I can tell others about his music (I'm guessing it's pronounced something like "Kur-ohsh" "Yag-ma-i", with three syllables in the last name?). Garagepunk66 (talk) 23:04, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Garagepunk66 (talk) 23:04, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

my God. I never thought I would find someone like myself to be a Kourosh Yaghmaei fan. However, I will complete Yaghmaei articles in due course. But about the correct pronunciation of Kourosh Yaghmaei. Kourosh is pronounced Ku-rosh, but Yaghmaei is pronounced Qoph as you don't have the word "Qoph" in English, and pronounced "Yag-ma-i". Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 23:35, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I had a suggestion because you liked the songs of Kourosh Yaghmaei I think you like the songs of Fereydoon Foroughi and Farhad Mehrad These three men are the golden triangle of Iranian rock. Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 23:37, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For example, the song "Narrow"[7] by Fereydoon Foroughi, one of the masterpieces of Iranian rock. Amirhosein Izadi (talk) 23:41, 13 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Picture of Pretty Things in GR article

[edit]

I hope you don't mind that I took out the Picture of the Pretty Things in the GR article. They are a great band, and I'd love to eventually find a way to get their picture back in there. But, I'm trying to remove the appearance "photo-clutter" in the article. The other day, another editor moved almost all of the pictures to the right side. Earlier, I had put many of them in a diagonal order to make it possible to have a lot of pictures without giving the look of clutter. But, I have also learned there is a policy about which direction pictures have to face (they should face into the text based on which way the faces and composition are facing in the picture), so I can see why he had to move many of them to the right side. However, with so many pictures on the right side, they all looked jumbled and cluttered, so I had to take a few pictures of some of my favorite bands out. It was painful to do, but it is important to have a neat, tidy, professional/graphic look in the article. I hope you don't mind. Garagepunk66 (talk) 04:47, 13 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Them GAN

[edit]

I have started a GA review of Them (band) but haven't completed it as there are a number of issues. See Talk:Them (band)/GA1. I feel there is too much work to do to get this up to GA level in a reasonable space of time, but I will keep it open if you are willing to do the work. As there has been no activity and seven days have passed I have closed the review. When the work has been done the article can be nominated again. The article Capture of Ardabil has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article was created by an editor who has a history of creating hoaxes. In regards to sources 1&2, No work from 2008 called "Russia in the Constitutional Revolution" appears to exist. Sources 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 are Farsi and can not be easily checked by me, but given this user's history i doubt that they seriously reflect the claims in the article. Source 6, "Old Iranian Calendars", does not have the full text available online, but http://www.avesta.org/taqizad.htm is a short english summary and says it has "some 350 pages", making the "p. 453" attached to the source bogus. Source 8, Cambridge history of Iran, does not appear to talk about Ardabil in the 1910s either, and it should have had a page number. Source 10, Iranica doesn't talk about Ardabil in the 1910s, let alone anything about the Persian Constitutional Revolution. Given the creator's history and these bogus sources, i think this can be deleted as a hoax.

The article Battle of Maraveh Tappeh has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This page is made by a serial hoaxer. Page history says that this is "translated" from Persian Wikipedia, but the Persian article clearly indicates that this took place during the reign of Reza Shah (between 1925 and 1941, and not 1909). Article also incorrectly and inconsistently uses Harvard style (Tucker 2010 but no full name of source). 2015 book called "Commander Savadkuh" appears to not exist from Google search. Google Books says that page 294 of "Iranian history at a glance" does not have a mention of a rebellion in 1909. Very likely to be a hoax.

The article Mohammed Ali Sardar Afkham has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Created by serial hoaxer. Translated from the Farsi Wikipedia page, but doesn't use any of the same sources. Of the two sources in this article, one is dead and the other doesn't even mention Afkham beyond a half of a sentence. I also fail to see where the infobox data could have come from, as its not in the Farsi article, and the sources here or there don't seem to have it. Furthermore, this article doesn't seem to line up with the Farsi version, the details are off. Based on this user's history, I conclude that they made up the info that wasn't available and passed it off as legit. So, while this person did seem to exist, the circumstances of its creation warrant a WP:TNT.

A tag has been placed on Category:Iranian rock songs indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
