An article you recently created, Tbew, is not suitable as written to remain published. An article needs more information and citations from reliable, independent sources to remain in the mainspace. Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline, has suitable content and thus is ready for mainspace, click the Submit the draft for review! button atop the article. - Hello. This is AnonSooner19's professor. The article has citations from reliable, independent, academic peer reviewed sources. Is the issue that you feel the article needs more information or that it is not verifiable, because the citations should satisfy the verifiability criteria. [edit]Hello, I'm Trilletrollet. I wanted to let you know that one or more external links you added to Kayseri have been removed because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. —Trilletrollet [ Talk | Contribs ] 23:03, 9 April 2023 (UTC)
Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. —Trilletrollet [ Talk | Contribs ] 16:21, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
Coptic Scriptorium
[edit]Hope you're well. I wanted to check in on all these links you're adding to Coptic Scriptorium. I don't know that they're appropriate for Wikipedia. These are, effectively, search results, & they're search results in a language other than English. So, for example, in the Aswan case, you linked to a search that turned up two results. One is from a life of St Pisentius in which it says simply that he did good works '[as far as] Aswan' (meaning the whole length of the Egyptian Nile); the other is a mistranslation of Isaiah 43:3. Neither is actually about Aswan. I don't know what a reader gets in following that link—especially if they don't read Coptic! What's your point of view on this? Pathawi (talk) 01:44, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
Please respond
[edit]I agree with the other editors above that the links you have been adding to Coptic Scriptorium are not appropriate or useful. In addition you have been adding them to the See Also section, which is not where external links should be placed, but that's less important than the fact that these links are not appropriate. Please read WP:EL and then explain here if you still think that these links are in line with Wikipedia guidelines for external links. CodeTalker (talk) 16:53, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Is the primary issue that these are links to a resource that's not in English? Ctschroeder (talk) 22:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- I reviewed the external link guidelines and did not see a problem since the link directs to an academically maintained site and the link text specifies that they are references in Coptic Literature Ctschroeder (talk) 22:09, 25 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Ctschroeder: Hi, prof. Thanks for running Wikipedia editing activities at your university. In the future, you might find that you get replies to inquiries like the above if you ping the involved people—otherwise, they're unlikely to know that you ever asked anything! The primary issue is not that the links are in a language other than English. The primary issue is that these links are not relevant. The fact that they are not in English is a secondary issue as it reduces their accessibility (for English-language Wikipedia), & makes it hard for users to know whether or not they're dealing with something relevant. Look at my comments on Aswan, for example: The link was to a search result from Coptic Scriptorium—the External Links guideline explicitly states that search results are generally not to be included. (WP:ELNO). The results that we get in this particular search are not relevant for the topic of Aswan: One of the two Coptic citations just mentions in passing that St Pisentius did good works as far as Aswan, while the other is (unfortunately) a mistranslation. It's hard to imagine the sort of interest in Aswan a person would need to have to find either of those texts informative. I hope that helps make things clear. Pathawi (talk) 03:55, 4 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Pathawi Understood. Thank you Ctschroeder (talk) 19:24, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
