Welcome to Central Data Bank's user talk page!

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Moving Riva, Beykoz to Riva, Istanbul

[edit]

Hi! I cannot understand why such a move was necessary. It is common that places are named to their next higher administrative place. Riva is a part of Beykoz, therefore "Riva, Beykoz" was correct. Can you explain please. CeeGee 04:48, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! @User:CeeGee The reason for the move in accordance with the general place names on wikipedia. Unless there are two of the same town/village in a province/state, the format is for example Riva, Istanbul rather than Riva, Beykoz. The same can also be seen on the Turkish Wiki. If there are two town/villages of the same name in one province, then the secondary administrative district would be used. Best regards. (Central Data Bank (talk) 16:19, 17 October 2017 (UTC))[reply]
Well I see that the problem has already been tackled. Never the less, I also want to make a point. The usual practice in WP is "Village, District". You're moving such titles to "Village, Province". (i.e, Rumalifeneri, Sarıyer becomes Rumelifeneri, İstanbul . Also in the list of populated places in Kırıkkale Province Irmak, Yahşihan becomes Irmak, Kırıkkale, which I've reverted.) Although there is nothing wrong with Village, Province type titles, it sometimes causes confusion. Because there may be more than one village with the same name in the same province i.e, see Yenice, Tarsus and Yenice, Gülnar. It is impossible to name both Yenice , Mersin. Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 17:00, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In the case of the two Yenices, the proper way would be Yenice, Gülnar, Mersin and Yenice, Tarsus, Mersin. The reason for this naming is so that the reader has a better understanding on where the village is located in Turkey. With the province that is easier to geographically locate the settlement in Turkey versus the district. Best regards. (Central Data Bank (talk) 17:04, 17 October 2017 (UTC))[reply]
  • Nedim Ardoğa has clarified the subject very well. I did not know that there are two Riva's in Beykoz. Do you (CDB) know about this? Please do not take WP:tr as a guideline. We are in WP:en. And, please refrain from moving further articles in such way. Thanks. CeeGee 17:11, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Konya station YHT services

[edit]

Hi! I don't see why you changed my edit on YHT routes that I've done on Konya station. Maybe I've done a mistake while editing but the current state is not correct neither. Trains coming to Konya from Istanbul/Eskişehir and Ankara, are using the same railway at the noth of the city. They will both in the future be extended to Karaman in the south. So I was thinking that the Terminus boxes should be on the right for both YHT lines. I believe this would be more coherent with other lines as well. Best. Nezo90 (talk) 20:01, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, however the s-rail template only uses two directions (left and right). Therefore the general consensus is left is used for west while right is used for east. Since Ankara is east of Konya and Istanbul west, they are shown on opposite sides. Even though they come in from the same direction, due to the lacking of the s-rail template, it needs to be written like that. (Central Data Bank (talk) 20:05, 29 October 2017 (UTC))[reply]
OK then. But this doesn't explain why you reverted my new edit on Eskişehir station. There are YHT trains from Ankara that make their terminus at Eskişehir and so don't continue to Istanbul. I've changed the template to precise that in fact. Nezo90 (talk) 17:18, 30 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I reverted it because the s-rail template is not a timetable of the train service. Ankara-Eskişehir trains are a part of the Ankara-Istanbul service (check TCDD Tasimacilik's official site for clarification). Therefore, the western (left) terminus of Ankara-Istanbul trains is Pendik station in Istanbul. The whole point of the s-rail template is to give a brief summary of the train services. All the best. (Central Data Bank (talk) 18:02, 30 October 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Hello, Central Data Bank. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Etimesgut Yard, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Turkish station names

[edit]

Hi Central Data Bank

Please could you stop moving Turkish stations from XXX railway station to XXX station? These moves are not uncontroversial and should be discussed first either through an RfC at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Stations or through a multi-move request filed as WP:RM. The one example which you requested there has been contested at Talk:Adana railway station. The Turkish stations were all created with this format, which makes that the convention for naming them, and changing that convention needs consensus. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 11:58, 2 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I moved them because the proper naming for railway stations in Turkey is simply XXX station. Adana garı or Alsancak garı. Tren garı is rarely used. The moves have been uncontroversial until you said something. Also, many other pages on WP has the XXX station format. Best regards! (Central Data Bank (talk) 17:16, 2 November 2017 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:12, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About a small edit of yours back in 2015

[edit]

Hi Central Data Bank! I stumbled upon Tünel a few weeks ago, and noticed that it mentioned Istanbul as Constantinople, which I thought was a weird thing to do, and changed it immediately. I then noticed that the text wasn't always like that and thought some troll changed it. But I'm surprised that a Turk did this. I have to ask, why change it?

Sorry if I sound like I'm nitpicking. I'm just really curious now, since you're a Turk! User:Tetizeraz. Send me a ✉️ ! 13:04, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tetizeraz! First off, I am not Turkish, I am American. I have lived in Turkey for 5 years and can speak the language. I still visit the country as I have many friends there. The reason I edit articles about Turkish railways is because I am a huge railfan and want to bring Turkish railway articles to its American page standards.
Regarding your question, I always use historic context and try my best to preserve the continuity of the time. The city was still widely known as "Constantinople" until 1934 when the name was officially changed to Istanbul. Also Istanbul is more closely associated with the Republic of Turkey while Constantinople is more closely associated with the Ottoman Empire. Therefore, since the Tünel was built during the Ottoman era the name of the city is Constantinople. I do not share any stigma towards the name Constantinople as history is history and a name is a name. Cheers! --Central Data Bank (talk) 22:16, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's good to know. I thought that Istanbul was the official name since the Ottoman Empire conquered the city from the dying Byzantine Empire. Thanks for clarifying! Cheers! User:Tetizeraz. Send me a ✉️ ! 22:24, 7 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

İZBAN lines

[edit]

Hi. You've reverted my edit and said that Northern and Southern lines are the lines themsleves. The "Central Line" is a train service, not the railline. I don't agree with you.

  • According to the official website of İZBAN, Northern line begins in Aliağa and ends in Menemen. Central line begins in Menemen and ends in Cumaovası. Southern line begins in Cumaovası and ends in Selçuk.[1]
  • If Northern and Southern lines are not rail services but rail lines as you've said, those articles should be renamed. Because right now the article names include the word "İZBAN" but the lines are not only used by İZBAN. TCDD passenger trains also use the lines (e.g. 6th of September Express).
  • First sentence of the article Northern Line (İZBAN) says "The Northern Line is a commuter rail service operated by IZBAN using tracks owned by the Turkish State Railways." As you can see, it contradicts with your claims.
  • Northern Line and Southern Line articles do not cite any/enough sources supporting your claims.

I think those two articles are about rail services. A new article titled "Central Line" should be created and all existing İZBAN line/station articles should be updated.--BSRF (talk) 17:22, 6 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi @BSRF:, sorry for the misunderstanding. By "rail line" I do not mean the physical "railway", since they use the Izmir-Afyon and the Izmir-Egirdir railways respectively. The Southern Line (IZBAN) has the proper wording, I dont understand why you failed to mention that above. The Northern Line and Southern Line (Kuzey ve Güney Hatlari) are IZBAN's own "lines" (such as Marmaray is a line while Gebze-Halkali and Kazlicesme-Sogutlucesme are services) The Central "Line" is a rail service and even so it extends from Menemen to Tepeköy, not Cumaovasi. I can understand why you think it is a line as it states on the website, however the central (Merkez) reffers to the majority of the train service. Now if you want to get technical we could change the service part to include this, however for simplicity's sake it is better to leave it as it is, since there would be four different services that would crowd the infobox. Anyway I fixed the wording on the Northern Line to avoid more misunderstandings. Cheers. (Central Data Bank (talk) 19:17, 6 June 2019 (UTC))[reply]
Thanks for your reply. If you don't mean the "physical railway" or "rail service" by "rail line", then what do you mean? :) You've said Northern and Southern lines use the Izmir-Afyon and the Izmir-Egirdir railways respectively. If they are not rail services, shouldn't we merge those articles since they are about the same topic? I pointed out above that TCDD passenger trains also use the lines but you failed to reply. And you still can't provide sources supporting your claims. By the way, Northern line article still uses {{Infobox rail service}} :)--BSRF (talk) 06:58, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
IZBAN is a different company from TCDD. Therefore the "line" is the route of IZBAN, not of TCDD, since technically the Northern Line used the Izmir-Afyon and then the Menemen-Aliaga railways. On the IZBAN "route" you have the different train services, such as Aliaga-Cumaovasi, Menemen-Tepeköy etc... The TCDDT rail services are operated by TCDDT, not IZBAN, they have nothing to do with each other. Like I said before, I can change up the services section to include the different services, but they would make the infoboxes more convoluted, which is why the simple-to-read Northern and Southern Lines suffice. unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. About the infobox of some Istanbul Metro stations

[edit]

Hello, Central Data Bank! May I suggest the replacement of two templates of yours, Template:Istanbul Metro two lines style and Template:Istanbul Metro infobox header? I found an alternative that has some (IMHO major) advantages:

  • it avoids the awkward repetition of the station name, since Istanbul Metro - just like the majority of metro systems - has an unique name for interchange complexes instead of different names for each line serving the same complex;
  • it follows the same approach adopted in similar cases (e.g. Vienna, Boston, Prague) - aka using the same layout for all infobox nameplates, with only the color scheme marking the difference between "standard" stations (unicolor from a single line) and interchanges (a color combo from multiple lines);
  • it could be smoothly adapted for possible future cases with more than two lines;
  • it works fine with the "metro" symbol.

On the right, the comparison between the current layout and my proposal (so far, I created only the M1-M3 version; the other will follow):

Given your ample contribution within the "transportation in Turkey" field and, besides, that you created both said templates and, according to the edit histories, hardly anyone else edited them, I feel is appropriate to let you know about this before editing further, and obviously your feedback or suggestions are welcome. Best regards, Yak79 2.0 (talk) 02:06, 9 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad you liked it! Thus far, I created and deployed new templates for all the existing interchanges (two metro-funicular stations included), but I’m hesitating to do the same for future ones too - by now, there are five of these adopting the old design (Kabataş, Kozyatağı, Gayrettepe, Kağıthane and Çarşı). I read carefully the WP:CRYSTAL policy, and I grew persuaded that using the same layout for future complexes as if they were already operational may mislead readers and it give undue weight to something yet to happen. I think the correct approach would be to use a single color, from the only already opened line, for the infobox nameplate and add the future lines to the line(s) parameter, in italic and with the planned opening date in brackets. @User:ToprakM Not a problem, the picture was added before the two towers of the bridge were built. Since actual pictures of the Bridge are up, it has served its purpose. Thanks for letting me know though. Cheers (Central Data Bank (talk) 20:34, 29 January 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Liberation of İzmir

[edit]

The title of Liberation of İzmir, an article started by you is under attack. (Check the history of the page) Although I requested for protection, you may want to check it. Cheers Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 17:49, 17 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi! I checked it out and while I agree with you that it should be moved to Liberation of Izmir, the topic of title change has already been discussed. If you want however we can open up a new request on the talk page. What do you think? Cheers. (Central Data Bank (talk) 17:56, 17 April 2021 (UTC))[reply]
Well the word liberation and recapture is discussable but at least the name of the city should be İzmir and not Smyrna. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 08:25, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, but as far as I know, the international name remained Smyrna until the 1930s when the Turkish government officially changed the name. Similar to how Constantinople was officially recognized as Istanbul. However we can still open a move request on the talk page if you like. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Ankara railway station, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sincan. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

A tag has been placed on Category:Istanbul ferry templates indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Mersin-Gaziantep HSR vs. Nurdağı-Başpınar HSR

[edit]

Since the article "Nurdağı–Başpınar railway" is part of article "Mersin–Gaziantep higher-speed railway", I think these items should be merged. What is your opinion on this matter? As far as I understand, you can speak Turkish. My English is not very good. If you can answer in Turkish, we can understand more easily. --bluetime93 💬 14:15, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello CentralDataBank, first of all i would like to thank you for your contributions to Turkish public transport on the English Wikipedia! I would like to inquire to your reasoning to change the "line" field in the infobox of Kocamustafapaşa station to the Istanbul-Pythion line as opposed to something like T6 or Sirkeci-Kazlıçeşme. Thanks in advance, and happy editing! ~eticangaaa (talk) 07:36, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Eticangaaa Hi and thank you! To clarify, the "line" parameter refers to the actual railway line, not the service. Since the Kazlicesme-Sirkeci section is still a part of the Istanbul-Pythion railway, it belongs in that parameter. The "T6" is the service that operates on the line. In the future, other heavy rail trains are planned to operate to Sirkeci. Hope this answers your question. Cheers! 80.120.163.101 (talk) 07:55, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Kaşınhan railway station

[edit]

Hello Central Data Bank, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Kaşınhan railway station, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kaşınhan railway station.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Pilaz}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!
