Barnstar for you!
[edit]Requested move barnstar | |
Hi, even though I disagree with the overall outcome as the nominator, I really appreciate how you closed the RM at Talk:Falcon (comics) with a detailed consideration of all viewpoints and rationales. IronManCap (talk) 19:58, 17 August 2021 (UTC) |
- @IronManCap: Thank you, this means a lot to me! I attempted to render a decision that would be as fair, comprehensible and all-inclusive as possible. I'm sorry that it had to end this way, and that you had to wait almost 2 month for a closure. I personally would have even preferred your suggested title (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say that) but the opposers' reasoning had the upper hand in this RM; and I'm intentionally choosing the term "upper hand" instead of "prevailed", as it really was a narrow one. I only regret having closed it as "not moved" instead of "no consensus", since the literal definition of consensus is still "general agreement" and there was clearly no such thing here. Anyways, thanks for your feedback! Colonestarrice (talk) 20:31, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- No worries, I am definitely satisfied with how you parsed the discussion, hence the barnstar. I think future discussions may be needed over the guidance at WP:NCCOMICS, not necessarily because the guidelines are failing but rather how to corroborate this guidance in line with general naming conventions and guidelines. For me, "not moved" and "no consensus" have the same weight btw, and I certainly have no issue with the closer "picking a side" if they provide a detailed rationale and evaluation of the discussion. Thanks, IronManCap (talk) 21:17, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Cool barnstar, I hadn't seen that one before! Just dropping by to say I also liked your close, which was steps above what I typically see from non-admin closers. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:15, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

My oops
[edit]Hi! As you saw I started a new thread in VP:Policy and you linked to an existing discussion over at WT:ANRFC. However, I think the discussion should probably be moved to VP with a collapsed mention of the existing text in WT:ANRFC as I feel the discussion might be better suited to happen in VP:Policy. What is your opinion? Also pinging The Gnome. Santacruz ⁂ Please ping me! 14:49, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'm OK either way but whatever is going to happen must happen a.s.a.p. -The Gnome (talk) 15:35, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
- I'll leave that up to y'all as I am not familiar with the process of solving issues like these. Santacruz ⁂ Please ping me! 15:42, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
Page mover granted
[edit]Hello, Colonestarrice. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.
Useful links:

Horndon-on-the-Hill
[edit]Please revert your incorrect close of the request to move Horndon-on-the-Hill to Horndon on the Hill. Your closure remark claimed it to be uncontested, but that is plainly untrue - I contested it with my remark that was moved to the talk page. See also my comment higher up the talk page in the section headed "Untitled". Thanks. --188.30.193.10 (talk) 12:30, 1 January 2022 (UTC) (previously 188.30.212.32)
- Done. Colonestarrice (talk) 15:00, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

On alerting users to SPI
[edit]Hello Colonestarrice! I just wanted to say that, as most SPI clerks and people involved with SPI will confirm, this is rarely a good idea. The effectivity of many SPI investigations involving LTAs depend on the LTA in question being blissfully unaware of the nature or even the existence of SPI. You may have just alerted a sockmaster who has been very easy to trace for more than a year now.
On the other hand, it's very rare for someone falsely suspected of sockpuppetry to successfully state something in their own defense, precisely because most users don't understand what's relevant for SPI and what not. The best defense really is to let those who are experienced with SPI do their work. If the evidence is not there, users will in the great majority of cases not be blocked: as elsewhere on WP, AGF is a very important principle in SPI.
In the rare event that someone does get blocked for sockpuppetry they did not commit, they can appeal by e-mail to arbcom where they can freely discuss off-wiki evidence (arbs also have CU permissions). Another reason why it is much better that way is that users defending themselves from accusations of sockpuppetry tend to out themselves, which they may later regret.
Let me also note that Wareno should not have mentioned sockpuppetry on the article talk page ([1]) in the first place. Don't alert possible sockmasters, don't accuse editors of sockpuppetry outside of SPI.
Thanks for taking this into consideration. If you would like to discuss this further, please feel free to e-mail me. ☿ Apaugasma (talk ☉) 15:22, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hey there @Apaugasma:,
- and thanks for the advice. Though I believe anyone has the right to be informed if they're being investigated, I'm not overly familiar with the SPI process, so if you tell me delivering such notices is suboptimal, I'll take it to heart. Colonestarrice (talk) 17:46, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Matt Doherty Sr.
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Matt Doherty Sr.. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Matt Doherty (Northern Irish footballer). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Matt Doherty (Northern Irish footballer). If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 14:54, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
