Malignant brain tumor

[edit]

Hi Derek,

Do you need help with the brain tumor merge? I'd like to get that merge resolved. WhatamIdoing (talk) 19:14, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

hello sure you can help, above this section is a link to my sandbox look in braintumor and look for the newbtmain page, i need help with referencing and proofreading for spelling errors (i'm heavily dyslectic and blind for spelling mistakes.--DerekvG (talk) 23:12, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to proofread for you; it's easy for me.
Why don't you pick out a section to work on (e.g., "Signs and symptoms") and use the existing text (e.g., Brain tumor#Signs and symptoms and Malignant brain tumor#Signs and symptoms) as your starting point? You can paste the text (and the existing references) into your sandbox and re-write however you'd like.
Then drop me a note, and I'll clean up any grammar or spelling problems for you. Does that sound good to you? WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:50, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll get back to you with a first part , in the mean time could you have a look at

Hi Derek,
I haven't forgotten you: I've been off wiki for a few days. I'm catching up, and your work is on my list. Feel free to leave a note for me in a day or two if I'm being too slow.
I hope that your son is doing well. WhatamIdoing (talk) 03:09, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
we are going through a worrysome period, but ge's recovering well thx--DerekvG (talk) 00:20, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
hi WhatamIdoing
After 8 weeks my son has returned home his MRI-Scan result is very good (he had 8 week of IV antibiotics to treat an infection).
Did you have the time to read my braintumor edit?
Can you help me pointing me to an article that tells me what "Endothelial proliferation" is ?

Wikimedia Belgium

[edit]

Hello,

--M0tty (talk) 18:43, 30 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

--DerekvG (talk) 19:23, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages with blank content, as you did to the page Pilocytic astrocytoma. Blank pages can confuse readers, and are overall not helpful to the Wikipedia project; furthermore, blanking a page is not the same as deleting it.

If the article you blanked is a duplicate of another article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If the page has been vandalized, please revert it to the last legitimate revision. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please use the appropriate deletion process. tetraedycal, tetraedycal 20:21, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry it was not my intention to blank an actual page in wikipedia, but it was my intention to remove an obsolete archive page in my sandbox ...--DerekvG (talk) 20:30, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please assume good faith

[edit]

Hello. Why on Earth would you "report my behaviour"? We're both trying, in good faith, to improve the article. I'm frankly quite surprised at this as it seemed to me that everything was perfectly civil until you put that tag on my page. Of course, if we were not able to come to some sort of resolution, it's appropriate to seek intervention, but I think you were very premature in doing so. Just something to think about. Oreo Priest talk 00:59, 3 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

oh should I indeed? don't you think that this asssumption works both ways ? --DerekvG (talk) 14:08, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

New medical organization

[edit]

Hi

I'm contacting you because, as a participant at Wikiproject Medicine, you may be interested in a new multinational non-profit organization we're forming at m:Wikimedia Medicine. Even if you don't want to be actively involved, any ideas you may have about our structure and aims would be very welcome on the project's talk page.

Our purpose is to help improve the range and quality of free online medical content, and we'll be working with like-minded organizations, such as the World Health Organization, professional and scholarly societies, medical schools, governments and NGOs - including Translators Without Borders.

Hope to see you there! --Anthonyhcole (talk) 07:26, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia Library now offering accounts from Cochrane Collaboration (sign up!)

[edit]

The Wikipedia Library gets Wikipedia editors free access to reliable sources that are behind paywalls. Because you are signed on as a medical editor, I thought you'd want to know about our most recent donation from Cochrane Collaboration.

  • Cochrane Collaboration is an independent medical nonprofit organization that conducts systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of health-care interventions, which it then publishes in the Cochrane Library.
  • Cochrane has generously agreed to give free, full-access accounts to 100 medical editors. Individual access would otherwise cost between $300 and $800 per account.
  • If you are still active as a medical editor, come and sign up :)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Schematic overview of Belgian institutions, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Magistrates court and Provincial council (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Medical Translation Newsletter
Issue 1, June/July 2014
by CFCF, Doc James

sign up for monthly delivery

This is the first of a series of newsletters for Wikiproject Medicine's Translation Task Force. Our goal is to make all the medical knowledge on Wikipedia available to the world, in the language of your choice.

note: you will not receive future editions of this newsletter unless you *sign up*; you received this version because you identify as a member of WikiProject Medicine

Spotlight - Simplified article translation

Wikiproject Medicine started translating simplified articles in February 2014. We now have 45 simplified articles ready for translation, of which the first on African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness has been translated into 46 out of ~100 languages. This list does not include the 33 additional articles that are available in both full and simple versions.

Our goal is to eventually translate 1,000 simplified articles. This includes:

We are looking for subject area leads to both create articles and recruit further editors. We need people with basic medical knowledge who are willing to help out. This includes to write, translate and especially integrate medical articles.

What's happening?

IEG grant
CFCF - "IEG beneficiary" and editor of this newsletter.

I've (CFCF) taken on the role of community organizer for this project, and will be working with this until December. The goals and timeline can be found here, and are focused on getting the project on a firm footing and to enable me to work near full-time over the summer, and part-time during the rest of the year. This means I will be available for questions and ideas, and you can best reach me by mail or on my talk page.

Wikimania 2014

For those going to London in a month's time (or those already nearby) there will be at least one event for all medical editors, on Thursday August 7th. See the event page, which also summarizes medicine-related presentations in the main conference. Please pass the word on to your local medical editors.

Integration progress

There has previously been some resistance against translation into certain languages with strong Wikipedia presence, such as Dutch, Polish, and Swedish.
What was found is that thre is hardly any negative opinion about the the project itself; and any such critique has focused on the ways that articles have being integrated. For an article to be usefully translated into a target-Wiki it needs to be properly Wiki-linked, carry proper citations and use the formatting of the chosen target language as well as being properly proof-read. Certain large Wikis such as the Polish and Dutch Wikis have strong traditions of medical content, with their own editorial system, own templates and different ideas about what constitutes a good medical article. For example, there are not MEDRS (Polish,German,Romanian,Persian) guidelines present on other Wikis, and some Wikis have a stronger background of country-specific content.

  • Swedish
Translation into Swedish has been difficult in part because of the amount of free, high quality sources out there already: patient info, for professionals. The same can be said for English, but has really given us all the more reason to try and create an unbiased and free encyclopedia of medical content. We want Wikipedia to act as an alternative to commercial sources, and preferably a really good one at that.
Through extensive collaborative work and by respecting links and Sweden specific content the last unintegrated Swedish translation went live in May.
  • Dutch
Dutch translation carries with it special difficulties, in part due to the premises in which the Dutch Wikipedia is built upon. There is great respect for what previous editors have created, and deleting or replacing old content can be frowned upon. In spite of this there are success stories: Anafylaxie.
  • Polish
Translation and integration into Polish also comes with its own unique set of challenges. The Polish Wikipedia has long been independent and works very hard to create high quality contentfor Polish audience. Previous translation trouble has lead to use of unique templates with unique formatting, not least among citations. Add to this that the Polish Wikipedia does not allow template redirects and a large body of work is required for each article.
(This is somewhat alleviated by a commissioned Template bot - to be released). - List of articles for integration
  • Arabic
The Arabic Wikipedia community has been informed of the efforts to integrate content through both the general talk-page as well as through one of the major Arabic Wikipedia facebook-groups: مجتمع ويكيبيديا العربي, something that has been heralded with great enthusiasm.
Integration guides

Integration is the next step after any translation. Despite this it is by no means trivial, and it comes with its own hardships and challenges. Previously each new integrator has needed to dive into the fray with little help from previous integrations. Therefore we are creating guides for specific Wikis that make integration simple and straightforward, with guides for specific languages, and for integrating on small Wikis.

Instructions on how to integrate an article may be found here [3]

Please continue your work here!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Hello, DerekvG. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Frans Detiège, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Pixarh (talk) 17:40, 8 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Fortifications of Antwerp for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Fortifications of Antwerp is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fortifications of Antwerp until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. MSJapan (talk) 23:43, 18 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MSJapan: There is no discussion happening on Talk:Fortifications of Antwerp, in other words you MSJapan has nominated an article for deleteion without prior discussion, actually that nomination should be the concluding action AFTER discussion on the article talk page. I find your action offensive, denigrating, inconsiderate, and a few other thing i will not mention out of politeness. The first sentence of this bot message may be grammatically correct, your action is the contrary of what it says. I don't make any proprietory claims but as such i find your action insulting towards the ongoing effort to bring validated information and sources to the article. The info provided is historically correct and sourced contrary to your claims. --DerekvG (talk) 14:21, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That is because, if you bothered to read the notice, the discussion is not taking place on the Talk page. That is not where Articles for deletion discussions occur, and they never have. The discussion is taking place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fortifications of Antwerp (where it should be) and furthermore, the utter lack of reliable secondary sources is precisely the problem. Please read WP:RS and understand how Wikipedia works and what it requires before you decide to complain about how it's someone else's fault that you are failing to edit within policies and guidelines. MSJapan (talk) 19:19, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you bother to read my comment you would not make this comment ! let me get it clear to you : ALL wikipedia documents and policies state clearly that the first discussion shoudl take place on the talk page of the article\. ther fore nomination for deletion is the tep after that discussion has terminated. you did tho opoosite --DerekvG (talk) 21:44, 20 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fortifications of Antwerp

[edit]

Hi, just leaving a note here about the discussion. I know that having an article that you created nominated for deletion is upsetting (it happened to me too). But the article is more or less "safe" since the consensus that I see in the discussion is firmly to keep. Just wait the 7-day period out and the article will suffer no harm :-). That said, I'd suggest you remove your last comment as it was not very nice towards the nominator. I think it would be best to keep it civil, and the article is in no danger of being deleted. K.e.coffman (talk) 01:08, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:K.e.coffman I object being called impolite or uncivil for saying to another user how uncivil and impolite his actions are. That is the equivalent of victim blaming, an action quite common in Wikipedia for people defending themselves against knowledgevandals such as MSJapan (nb I've shared my concerns and my opinion on these matters with Jimbo Wales, who is not rejecting my views of the phenomenon). As i said before all documents within Wikipedia describing policy say the same thing, all document used to Wikipedia teach newbees about wikipedia say the same thing : one should start a discussion about an article on the talk page of the article not in the nominated for deletion list. Nomination for deletion of a valid article that is being worked on should be doen AFTER the discussion of the article in the Talk page, therefore nominating an article for deletion before any such discussion took place is uncivil, denigrating, condescending, impolite and foremost against regulations ... now again you come here to menaced with repraisals while the nominator is not even as much as reprimanded for his course of action. so before you talk to me about uncivil behaviour please reprimand the nominator --DerekvG (talk) --DerekvG (talk) 18:21, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, DerekvG. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Brasserie Grain d'Orge (Hombourg), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

@Power~enwiki Your claim about lack of notability means we can delete every thing on Belgian Beers and therefore anything on beers and breweries because only the global big five have notability. You clearly ignore the mentions of this brewery in at least two major international beer reference/review-websites, Ratebeer and Beeradvocate. In short I don't agree with your appreciation--DerekvG (talk) 08:52, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
BTW your nomination is uncivil and disrespectful because you have made no previous attempt to discuss the matter or contribute to/correct or improve the article.--DerekvG (talk) 08:56, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Aarschotse Stadsbrouwerij has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not read like an encyclopedic entry nor seems to be a notable topic.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
