edits

[edit]

The edit at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Petrus_Josephus_Zoetmulder for me has no reason that could be considered valid - please take me to the policy/item of wikipedia conventions that sees that as a valid edit, thank you JarrahTree 10:37, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The discussion and summary leave me very doubtful about the process of removal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)/Archive_126#RfC:_Religion_in_biographical_infoboxes

Iridescents closing comments leave such a sense of uncertainty, that I personally would not support either side of the arguments - regardlles of the numerical weight or lack of it.

How to implement this removal while ensuring that those cases in which the religion is significant to the article subject is adequately covered either in the body text or in a custom parameter will potentially require a second RFC if a discussion can't agree on a mechanism for an orderly removal of the parameter.

You're brave, I wouldnt touch it. As for Zoetmulder, he was a jesuit, I fail to see the removal of the part of the info box helps him, wikipedia, or for that matter the reader... have fun. JarrahTree 11:02, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

when you have been here long enough, getting angry about anything is pointless. Your edit count shows remarkable restraint for ten years... but then it takes all kinds here. JarrahTree 12:26, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

George Dawson

[edit]

I appreciate that your edits are largely or wholly automated, but I hope there is a human being monitoring this page. Can you please explain what has happened at George Dawson (preacher)? Yesterday you removed the "religion" parameter from the infobox with your standard summary "The religion parameter is NOT recognized in the 'Infobox Person' template". I looked at the discussion at Village pump, and found that, while there had indeed been a clear consensus to remove the parameter, there had also been a strong body of opinion that it had a useful function where religion was significant to the article subject. In the case of George Dawson – a preacher and religious activist – religion is undoubtedly significant (although as it happens his precise denomination is a matter of debate, so he tends to be labelled merely as a nonconformist). Therefore, in order to allow the religion parameter to remain in use, I changed the "Infobox person" template to an "Infobox Christian leader" template. (This was not done without some thought and reservations, as it meant that the useful "Known for" parameter was no longer recognised; but an indication of denomination seemed more important. I also experimented with the "Infobox clergy" template, but that was no better.) Within less than an hour, you had again deleted the parameter, with the same "The religion parameter is NOT recognized in the 'Infobox Person' template" justification, despite the fact that that template was no longer in use. Huh? GrindtXX (talk) 21:00, 19 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm 118.17.67.88. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to Hamid Gabbay have been undone because they did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help Desk. Thanks. 118.17.67.88 (talk) 07:02, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Feel free to UNDO my edit. After you do that, go to the article Edit Source tab, then click the Show Prewiew button on the bottom and read for yourself. The information I am removing was not visible in the article before my edit, nor will it be after you UNDO if you choose to do so.

I welcome the feedback... Gene Wilson (talk) 07:10, 20 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Slightly inaccurate edit summary

[edit]

Your edit summary on Andrew Halliday (physician) reads "The religion parameter is NOT recognized in the 'Infobox Person' template." A more accurate edit summary would be "The religion parameter is NO LONGER recognized in the 'Infobox Person' template. Before 2017-01-09, it was a valid parameter. I placed the Infobox on 2014-02-15.

I know that this may seem trifling, but your summary implies incompetence upon the part of a previous editor. Please be more precise in your language to avoid unintentional insults. Doing so will go a long way with avoiding conflict with other editors.

Thanks for the edits to the 1860 US Presidential Election in Vermont, 1864 US Presidential Election in Vermont and US Presidential Election in Kansas articles on July 12th. I apologize for any inconvenience I caused for the messed up linking. I didn't see that the tiny URL part of the link was missing entirely. What must of happened on those articles was when I copied and pasted the link from the 1856 US Presidential election in Vermont article, I accidentally deleted the URL part of the link while transporting the link source and changing the links for those three articles. Also, sorry for the late reply, I've been editing a lot of US Presidential Election articles. --JCC the Alternate Historian (talk) 14:30, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gene, thanks for your edit to Maria Montessori. Just a tip though: you can use wikilinks to link to sections, which would make your edit summaries a lot less unwieldy ... this link to the RFC on religion in biographical infoboxes works (see wiki-markup in the edit window; I could use nowiki to show it but that'd be clunky here). Thanks. Graham87 15:52, 31 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RFC religion in infoboxes

[edit]

Are you not making a bit of a joke out of this RFC? Sometimes removing the religion out of the infobox can be quite silly. Like removing the religion of a rabbi...

In fact, you are destroying information, as you only remove the notion in the infobox without moving the info to another place in the article. I politely request you to stop destroying info. The Banner talk 09:15, 4 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Color me flummoxed. I had no idea there was a removal of religion from the infobox person template back in 2016. (I would have voted to keep it.) Sorry to have reverted so many of your edits! Binksternet (talk) 21:29, 6 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
