Serious misquotings and falsifications of sources.

[edit]

Hi. There is a major problem with the present Chams article as it is full of falsifications and misquoting of its sources. Until yesterday I had no idea about but in a day (until now) I found 14!! such cases in that article, indicating a consistent effort possibly from more than one editors. I really don't know how to manage the situation because I believe that they are many more such cases. I started to report the cases one by one to the discussion page and to edit the article but the falsifications are too many to do it by myself before an edit war will start again to stop any real work. Since you are the arbitrator can you please take a look to the discussion and the already mentioning cases (I will give at least eight more) to make your checking and to tell me how to manage the situation. Can we freeze the article so to examine one by one every source on it? It is impossible to do it by myself when every day new references and edits are adding (by the same person), together with the hot debate in the discussion page. About the discussion I indeed believing that is used as an excuse to leave the article as it is. See for example what happened with the Igoumenitsa discussion (much to the same issue about Chams)[1]. You will see much the same story. When I firstly edited the article the same persons asked me to go to discuss it before. After the usual hot debate of the first days, now I am taking one answer every week and after 21 days of almost no participation, the discussion is dead much the same as the article as we have “no consensus” to edit it. They simply don't care any more since the article is now effectively locked having not a single undesirable word. They have ten days to participate, having to answer a week before their last post. Thanks and sorry for the trouble. --Factuarius (talk) 06:25, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Shall you please intervine in Talk:Cham Albanians cause it is becoming a mess. Please, Balkanian`s word (talk) 08:46, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Balkanian`s word. It was a mess of references, and I agree is still but we can work on this. --Factuarius (talk) 09:34, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We can work if you discuss and not revert.Balkanian`s word (talk) 09:51, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I like your drop-down-menus gadget, but there's one change I'd like to see. Since the top menu items under both "user" and "page" open up submenus when "mouseovered", they really should be placed last in their respective menus. It's hard to avoid opening up the submenus when you want to select something below them, such as page history or user contributions. It gets a little annoying after a while... Otherwise, great job on the gadget. - dcljr (talk) 16:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and you should check User talk:Haza-w/Drop-down menus if you haven't already. I don't think you noticed a comment someone left there. (You might want to redirect that page to this one if you don't want to have to check multiple talk pages.) - dcljr (talk) 16:26, 1 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Dcljr. The mouseover menus are deliberately horizontally offset so that they shouldn't block the parent menu. Personally, I feel that having the mouseover entries at the foot of the menu seems less aesthetically pleasing, and so I'm unwilling to change the default behaviour of the script in that respect, but it could probably be made a configurable option – what do you reckon? With regard to the documentation talk page, I had responded to the query, and I have the page watched so no worries! haz (talk) 12:18, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cactions req.

[edit]

I might be missing it because it's 2am, but could you consider adding the Toolserver SUL utility to the user cactions menu? I'd greatly appreciate it. —what a crazy random happenstance 16:15, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

How about adding a new link to the "page" drop-down tab for page hits? A link for any page's hits can be found under this form: http://stats.grok.se/en/{{CURRENTYEAR}}{{CURRENTMONTH}}/{{FULLPAGENAMEE}}. ChrisDHDR 10:26, 10 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's also another site, http://wikirank.com, which uses the form http://wikirank.com/en/{{FULLPAGENAME}}?month={{CURRENTYEAR}}{{CURRENTMONTH}}. ChrisDHDR 10:52, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not getting the personalised shortcuts portlet underneath the toolbox.

Here is what I have in my monobook.js (in its entirety): <removed>

What am I doing wrong?

I love the drop-down bit - everything else is working apart from the shortcuts portlet.

User:Haza-w/cactions.js and the Vector skin

[edit]

Am I doing something wrong? I copied my monobook.js to vector.js, and most things are working perfectly from what I can see - but I don't get the shortcuts appearing :(

Is there anyway I can get this to work - or will I just need to stick with monobook when the default skin changes tomorrow? -- PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 12:29, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Steve. The script is actually failing gracefully as it doesn't recognise the skin – I'll have it changed. Being fairly inactive these days, I came onto Wikipedia just to check something out, and as soon as I saw the Vector migration had been rolled out, did an instant "shit, the script!" I'm on it like Sonic. Thanks for the heads-up. haz (talk) 16:40, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, Vector support has been implemented. haz (talk) 12:06, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Vector "watch" question
Now that this has been updated for vector, is it possible to get the "watch page" star back? I find it so much more useful than having it in a menu. Thanks! —DoRD (talk) 13:17, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I'm using the script as a gadget. Perhaps I need to import it and use a config option? —DoRD (talk) 13:21, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're right, it's much more useful. Sexier too, in an inanimate sort of way... Anyway, the script no longer toys with the watch icon in Vector. Thanks for the recommendation. haz (talk) 17:14, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Account creator flag

[edit]

Hi Haza-w,

I wanted to let you know that I have removed your Account Creator flag because it appears that you have been inactive from creating account for almost a year. Per the policy on WP:PERM the flag is removed if you are no longer active in the Account Creation process. If you would like to become active again please feel free to contact an ACC admin for access and you can always re-request the Account creator flag at WP:PERM or my talk page if you need it again in the future. Thanks for past help in this area and let me know if you have any quesitons! James (T C) 15:37, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. I'm barely active on Wikipedia at all at the moment, so I have no current need for it. Cheers, haz (talk) 12:06, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

HAL

[edit]

Re. Talk:HAL_Light_Combat_Helicopter#Edit_request_from_Suji4599.2C_31_May_2010

Looks like we were doing similar things at same time.

Is it worth an SPI on the accounts, do you think?  Chzz  ►  14:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The way it looks to me is simply that 59.177.0.239 registered the Suji4599 account after the article was semi-protected. None of the other editors look to be socks, from what I can see. I think what we may be dealing with is a good faith effort by someone associated with the company to upload imagery of the aircraft (the image resolutions were higher than I could find on the internet) but there is a clear copyright assertion by HAL on their website. In any case, I don't think SPI would be necessary. In any case, it's good to see you around! We've bumped into each other before, I seem to remember, back in the days before my crippling inactivity... haz (talk) 14:34, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that; agreed re. SPI - just needs watching, to see if the pics reappear, I suppose. I hate protection of any kind, but in this case it does help solve the issue.
And yes...welcome back. I had a few months break myself, and I find that I now I have returned, I approach things a bit differently, and hopefully better. I think we all need a break, sometimes. Best,  Chzz  ►  18:16, 31 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Haza-w - first off, thank you for creating the user and page menu gadget in preferences. Until recently I thought this was just standard for all users, as it is so convenient. After my RfA I installed many scripts and noticed that with only two scripts installed, cactions and User:Animum/easyblock.js parts of cactions seem to break. For example, on my own user talk page - the user tab will (usually) still show, as will the block tab from easy block - but the [page] tab always disappears. No errors show in the java console, and I have stepped through the cactions code and I can see that the function for building the page menu is successfully getting called (as on all other pages) but it is somehow subsequently getting hidden. Any thoughts? I'll notify Animum about this as well.  7  23:59, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey 7, thanks for the notification, and indeed congratulations on your recent promotion. Unfortunately, the easyblock script is such that I can't replicate the problems easily on a non-sysop account, so it will probably take a bit of skulduggery to get to the bottom of the problem. What skin are you using, just for info? haz (talk) 00:07, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the quick reply and the comment. I am still using monobook, running firefox 3.x. Even with just the two scripts installed it happens. Perhaps easyblock is trying to hide the element name that your script creates?  7  00:18, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps. Would you mind joining me on IRC to debug this? A talk page thread is just going to be too disjointed. haz (talk) 00:28, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in Japan timezone - and at work now - and most IRC is totally blocked through work proxies. Can we do a weekend?  7  01:35, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, no problem. My availability is fairly ubiquitous, so let me know when you're around. haz (talk) 01:38, 8 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
FYI - the problem does NOT happen in vector, so I may have finally found my last-straw reason to switch over. May not be worth spending much time on. I'll see if I can live with Vector, but if you are really interested and have any more questions about what I see in monobook I'm happy to discuss further.  7  05:28, 9 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Greetings from Italy

[edit]

Hi, I came here from an old link into it:s:Utente:IPork/tendine.js, out wikisource beloved js for drop-down menu, two years old (some centuries into the web). Our problem was, as import our menus into Vector. Far from being solved, nevertheless I saw that your current captions.js runs under Vector too, I installed it immediately and I'm studying it (an hard job since I write python but I'm deeply ignorant about js and AJAX). But I'll find some much more expert friend. :-)

Can you fix please a broken link into tl|info of captions.js page, pointing to a wrong doc page? I'd like to fix it personally, but I can't.

Can we ask you some details if needed? And, please: your answer at it:s:Discussioni utente:Alex brollo please? Thanks!! --Alex_brollo Talk|Contrib 16:54, 10 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply Haz! I'll do. Really I already did my best into customization of the script (I translated menu entries into Italian, so far I can't do more than this...), but my aim is to add many entries to that model, so that it could be used too as an edit tool, as our previous IPork scripts. A good opportunity to study a little bit of js,or to learn from more experienced js programmers. I saw too that the script doesn't uses jQuery, since jQuery is not installed into it.source so far, but your script runs happily. --79.45.238.29 (talk) 05:26, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 17:57, 15 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A very nice gadget, but I would prefer itabs: false by default. As the history-button is too important and editing the JS subpage is rather cumbersome.--Wickey-nl (talk) 13:54, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

LTA and AbRep for drop-down menus

I would like having a link for Wikipedia:Long-term abuse, and Wikipedia:Abuse response. It gives instructions for persistant vandals and reports on contacting the ISP.

I think it will be like:

User tab options

[edit]

Hi

It seems there have been some changes to the User tab drop down list, as I no longer have the user stats options.

Was this something done on purpose, an interfering other script, or a change somewhere else that has had a knock on effect?

Thanks Chaosdruid (talk) 17:14, 11 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Overhauling the script, will have a look haz (talk) 14:26, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted

[edit]

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at mediawiki.org. Sumanah (talk) 16:18, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Registration is now open. If you need financial assistance or help with visa or hotel, then please register by May 1st and mention it in the registration form. Best, Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 00:48, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the notification. I will possibly show my face at a UK hackathon if one were to be organised. Cheers, haz (talk) 14:26, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

User:Haza-w/Drop-down menus

[edit]

Hello Haza-w, I have been using your dropdown menu gadget for some time and I was curious, is it possible to keep the default page tabs that are removed by User:Haza-w/Drop-down menus without affecting the dropdown menu display. I tried setting itabs to false, but that removes the "Links to Rfx", "Edit count", "Edit summaries", and "Edit analysis" links in the "User" dropdown menu and it also removes the "History", "Move page", "[un]watch", and "Page analysis" buttons from the "Page" dropdown menu. So I was wondering if it were possible to keep these buttons from being removed from the dropdown menus, while at the same time keeping the default page tabs (move, watch, history). Thank you, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 16:53, 3 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like unintended behaviour, will have a look. Apologies for absence. haz (talk) 14:26, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
First off, thank you for the amazing tool. It's nice to have everything in one place. Second, I'll echo the problem pointed out above. Adding the tool with the default options removed the "watch" tab, which bugged me because it took 3 steps to watch a page. When I modified the default options, it restored the old tabs, but got rid of the other functions mentioned above. ~Adjwilley (talk) 04:29, 24 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Problem with watch/unwatch page function in drop-down menu gadget

[edit]

Hi. A few months ago, the "watch page" / "unwatch page" function in the drop-down menu gadget started giving me an annoying new page asking me to click on a "Yes" button to confirm my request to watch or unwatch a page. The default "watch" / "unwatch" button (displayed when your gadget is not being used) doesn't do this.

I did some poking around and believe the reason for this change in behaviour is that a new "token" parameter was added to the MediaWiki watch/unwatch API (see here). The default watch/unwatch button action includes this token parameter, but the watch/unwatch menu item in your gadget does not.

How easy / hard / impossible do you believe it would be to update the gadget's watch/unwatch function to match the current default action? — Richwales 20:53, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are invited to the first ever Reading Wiki Meetup which will take place at Copa, 76-78 Kings Road, Reading, RG1 3BJ on Sunday 23 September 2012 from 1.00 pm.

I hope as many people as possible will be able to attend so that we can make this a regular event. If you have never been to one, this is an opportunity to meet other Wikipedians in an informal atmosphere for Wiki and non-Wiki related chat and for beer or food if you like. Experienced and new contributors are all welcome. This event is definitely not restricted just to discussion of Berkshire related topics. Bring your laptop if you like and use the free Wifi or just bring yourself. Even better, bring a friend! Click the link for full details. Looking forward to seeing you. [edit]

Hi Haza-w, I installed your gadget "Drop-down menus" and I realized that, although all default page links (most prominently "Move page" on article pages) get moved to the gadgets dropdown list, the dropdown list originally hiding them in Vector skin doesn't get removed.
Therefore I'm always seeing two arrows for the dropdown lists on article pages - the default one (now empty) and the gadget's one. On user pages there are even three arrows/dropdown lists.
Did I overlook something or is this actually a bug in the script? — Patrick87 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:12, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Brother Haza-w,

I liked ur gadget Drop-down menu. So I installed it in my ml.wiki. I saw a Bug that It is visible the "Move page" menu's arrow near ur menus (in my ml.wiki). I think that it is waste in the presence of ur menus :). Is any way to remove/hide that? I request U to give ur replay in my talk page... --AswiniKP (talk) 07:02, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cactions bug

[edit]

It looks like the mwsvr condition is the wrong way around. I believe it should be: mwsvr: wgServer.indexOf('secure.wikimedia.org') == -1 ? null : wgServer.split('://')[1]. MW-specific links were showing up on non-MW servers. For bonus points, is it possible to change the language and CSS links to be relative to the original page? We've installed ours at MediaWiki:Gadget-dropdown-menus.js, and it would mean fewer customizations to do when we update. Thanks! Robin Hood  (talk) 20:47, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and the SUL menu item should have an mwsvr? before it. Robin Hood  (talk) 20:50, 26 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Possible removal of AWB access due to inactivity

[edit]

Hello! There is currently a request for approval of a bot to manage the AutoWikiBrowser CheckPage by removing inactive users, among other tasks. You are being contacted because you may qualify as an inactive user of AWB. First, if you have any input on the proposed bot task, please feel free to comment at the BRFA. Should the bot task be approved, your access to AWB may be uncontroversially removed if you do not resume editing within a week's time. This is purely for routine maintenance of the CheckPage, and is not indicative of wrongdoing on your part. You will be able regain access at any time by simply requesting it at WP:PERM/AWB. Ex-officio listed at Redirects for discussion

[edit]

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Ex-officio. Since you had some involvement with the Ex-officio redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Thryduulf (talk) 17:39, 9 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Haza-w. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
