Rajinikanth

Actually the reason why I removed "superstar" is because there is a consensus in Tamil actor articles that titles cannot be used as other names. Therefore, Superstar, Ilayathalapathi, Ultimate Star, etc. cannot be placed there because they are titles, not names. For example, if one is a doctor, their other name cannot be as "doctor." In the Rajinikanth page, the fact that he is credited as Superstar is already covered in the paragraphs.

As for Chennai being his residence, I don't remember reverting anything like that. Of course he does live in Chennai. My apologies if I reverted it by accident. EelamStyleZ (talk) 22:36, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Keyan, before adding tamil wiki links to english wiki articles, check if the article actually exists in tamil wikipedia and add the correct title. right now you are introducing wrong links while adding tamil wiki links. please be careful hereafter.--Sodabottle (talk) 16:54, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

or better come over to the tamil wiki and create the article yourself. --Sodabottle (talk) 16:56, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
ugh. you have made me do a lot of work. I am getting tired of cleaning up your mistakes. you have broken so many interwiki links. a)don't add a ta: link at the bottom of the article if you dont find one b) dont modify the existing ta: link to your preferred spelling - it links to tamil wikipedia and you changing the title breaks the link. your actions are more damaging to wikipedia than helpful--Sodabottle (talk) 17:21, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

To Sodabottle,

Hi. I still could not fully go through what you actually mean. before adding tamil wiki links to english wiki articles, check if the article actually exists in tamil wikipedia and add the correct title. right now you are introducing wrong links while adding tamil wiki links.

Whats you are meaning here. I did not do anything like that??? Explain me clearly. Give me clear examples please.

The way I saw your message and that one redirected from SpacemanSpiff I got shocked. Please do care in giving a example so that I will watch out carefully in future, if what you guys say on me is correct.

Please sorry for any serious big wrong if at all i have done for you guys. I do respect you guys.

Thanks,

Keyan20 (talk) 02:17, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

Ok, let me explain. When you were adding Tamil names to tamil film personality articles, you added the tamil script in two places - immediately after the name and at the bottom of the article. The tamil script that appears at the bottom is actually a link for the article in Tamil wikipedia. It looks like this "[[ta: எஸ். வி. சேகர்]]” for S. Ve. Sekhar. Now when you added the tamil script for his name, you added the full name and and the same full name in the bottom too. This introduced a link to a Tamil wikipedia article that does not exist. Because the actual article title in tamil wiki is "எஸ். வி. சேகர்" and not the full name of him. Similarly a majority of the articles don't have an entry in tamil wiki (it is a small wiki, still growing).
You might wonder, why such fuss about introducing wrong links. Its because when a wrong link is introduced it shows up in the left menu under "languages". If people click the link and they are taken to a broken page, they would think all such links would lead to dead ends and stop clicking at those. Those links exist specifically for people wishing to read the article in other languages. So the link should be added only if the article exists in other language wiki. Secondly, maintenance of the interwiki links is automated, if wrong links are introduced, the bots that maintain them will change the text in other wikilinks. for example, an article exists in five language wikis, you change one language's link in one wiki. it gets changed in all three other language wiki's as well. We have to change all of them back (after verifying etc). So much work
In short: a)while adding tamil script - add only right after the name b) do not touch the tamil script at the bottom of the article c)if you are indeed adding cross wiki links, then check in tamil wiki (ta.wikipedia.org) if the article exists or not and in what name it exists
I apologise for my rudeness. I didn't realise you are (relatively) new to wikipedia. I assumed you were someone experienced. If you get any doubts about wiki policies, (i edit both tamil and english wikies) drop me a note.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:02, 17 September 2010 (UTC)

To Sodabottle,

Yes indeed I did that what you were telling me. I got it now. But beleive me my friend without knowing that I did. Many many thanks to you.

I got exactly what you are telling. I appreciate your efforts and accept my apology for the hardest work that I created to you (unknowingly).

Please do understand I am new to wiki and many thanks,

Rajini

I know Rajini admits he's Tamil, but I don't understand what your point is. Please clarify. EelamStyleZ (talk) 17:08, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

PS. Does not matter if you're a Rajini fan. I'm a big Rajini fan myself. As long as we keep WP:NPOV in mind, we're safe

I see. Let me clear this up for you. Rajini can consider him being Tamil, but that doesn't change his first language. He doesn't have to call himself Tamil/Kannada/Marathi or anything for us to know what his first language is. As sources suggest, his first language is Marathi, second Kannada, while third is Tamil. Then again, "Rajinikanth" is a Tamil name of course and yes, that would probably suggest that writing his name in Tamil would be the only logical thing to do, and deleting his name written both in Kannada and Marathi. If only someone can write his birthname "Shivaji Rao Gaekwad" in Marathi and/or Kannada, it would make it easier for us to remove "Rajinikanth" written in Marathi and Kannada. Now that you mention it, I think its okay to remove the Kannada and Marathi writings of his name, since the name "Rajinikanth" doesn't come from niether of those languages. Thus, I guess we can go ahead and delete them from the article and preferrably get someone to include "Shivaji Rao Gaekwad" in one of those languages. Thanks for the suggestion. Punctuation

Just a quick tip: on the English Wikipedia, punctuation always comes before any reference. For example, the following placement is correct:

Text.<ref>footnote</ref>

And the following would be incorrect:

Text<ref>footnote</ref>.

I only mention it because your recent edit to Rajinikanth changed the punctuation from correct placement to incorrect placement. AtticusX (talk) 09:18, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

MGR=

I have rewritten the lead paras in MGR. Take a look. chakpak, incredible people and tamil spider are not reliable sources (sites like these usually copy things from wikipedia, so it becomes circular referencing). I have not removed the content, as what you have written are factually accurate, but don't use these sources hereafter.

Also the lead is just a summary of what comes in the article. So if you want to improve the article, i suggest you begin with the contents and then move on to the lead.--Sodabottle (talk) 12:22, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

fx?

Just out of curiosity, what does "fx" stand for when you put it in your edit summaries? It's not an abbreviation I am familiar with, and it doesn't appear in the Wikipedia:Edit summary legend. AtticusX (talk) 08:59, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi, AtticusX. fx is just fixing a page. It can be corr, modi, new update but indicating a change done prior to its previous versions.

Final warning

After the prior block of your IP you have now started uploading copyright violations to Commons and using those files here. If you continue to do this disruption, you will be blocked again, this time for a longer duration. —SpacemanSpiff 11:32, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

In addition to requesting copyright review of your images on Commons, I have listed File:Devar-and-kamal.jpg and File:Maestro Raja.jpg for copyright review on Wikipedia. The listings are side by side and begin here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:36, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

You ask why I am like this: the Wikimedia Foundation has copyright policies, and as an administrator I am heavily invested in ensuring that contributors follow them. You have not done so in the past, and there is reason to believe that you are not doing so now. You are very welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, but we must ask that you comply with these policies in so doing. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:15, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Keyan, the "Devar and Kamal" picture is a screenshot from Devar Magan. How can you upload it as your own picture and then claim people are out to get you?. --Sodabottle (talk) 14:32, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Just a few hours ago, you swore with great passion on Wikimedia Commons (here) that File:Devar-and-kamal.jpg was all yours. Related to it and another image, you said, "Other than this both other images are mine ONLY. Why are you guys make me go hanged again & again like this. I also do edit and upload after reviewing all the instruction. Seeing everything in doubt is not good and crushes users like me. I am totally got mad when again and again this is raised against me. Please please for God sake try to reach me. !!!" "Please trust me," you said. Since then, it has been identified as a screen capture from a film. Early images that you swore were yours turned out to have been taken by others. I'm afraid that we cannot rely on appeals for trust. We need evidence. As before, it would go a long way if you were able to supply original shots in higher resolution than the ones you have hosted here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 00:03, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Image use policy

This is very important: you must stop representing images as free when you cannot prove that they are. You indicate that the image File:Illayaraja with President Abdul Kalam.jpg is "public domain". There is no reason to believe that this is true; it is published on the website from which you took it with the following notation: "All rights reserved". (It's doubtful that the copyright belongs to that individual anyway, but, presuming it did, he clearly has not released it into public domain.)

I realize that you think articles are improved by the addition of images. We all do. But unfortunately we can't include images unless they really are free (and we can prove it) or unless they met the allowances of non-free content. It is not enough to say that the purpose of the use is to add a "Profile picture of person." You have to explain what it is about the image that makes it usable under our policies. We very seldom accept non-free images of living people; an exception is made "for some retired or disbanded groups, or retired individuals whose notability rests in large part on their earlier visual appearance, a new picture may not serve the same purpose as an image taken during their career, in which case the use would be acceptable." But even when these exceptions apply, our policy requires that non-free images be kept to a minimum: "Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information." If you wish to use more than one non-free image in an article, you need not only to explain how the image meets the policy and why, specifically, more than one non-free image is necessary to convey significant, encyclopedic information. Non-free images cannot be used decoratively only. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:21, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Keyan, you really have a problem understanding copyright policies. why dont you give up uploading images for a few months? the articles should do just fine a few more months without images. just hanging around doing non-controversial edits might help you understand this "complex" copyright "concept". --CarTick (talk) 00:39, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

DO NOT COPY SENTENCES OR IMAGES FROM OTHER WEBSITES

Your addition to Ilaiyaraaja has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content such as sentences or images. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. After the numerous second chances you have been given to educate yourself about Wikipedia's copyright policies, I cannot believe you are still having trouble grasping this concept. Don't copy sentences from other websites. Don't copy images from other websites. Just don't do it. AtticusX (talk) 16:59, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Keyan20, your reply on my talk page was garbled and partly incomprehensible, presumably due to the language barrier. I hope what you meant to say was, "Yes, I understand that we are not allowed to WP:COPYPASTE whole sentences from other websites into Wikipedia articles. I promise I won't do that anymore." But what it sounds like you are saying is, "You should have rewritten my copypaste instead of deleting it."
Unfortunately, that's not how it works when you add copyvio content. If you copy sentences from a copyrighted source, it endangers the legality of any future edits that might be built on top of yours, and the safest course of action is to remove the illegitimate material as quickly as possible. So don't count on the next editor to rewrite your plagiarized content to make it copyvio-free.
Moreover, in this case, your addition contained puffery, which does not lend itself to a neutral tone, plagiarized or not. Sentences like "Today, no other artiste personifies the popularity of film music as does Ilaiyaraaja" are an example of WP:PEACOCK. Even if it weren't a copyvio, that statement is hyperbolic and out of place in an encyclopedia article. Let the facts speak for themselves.
Your repeated copyvio additions have wasted the time of several good editors who have shown you more patience than I would have. If you want to help Wikipedia, please stop adding copyvio content. AtticusX (talk) 22:39, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

Tamil transcription

Two points: 1) Don't add different tamil transcriptions different from the english lettering in the article. for e.g. next to c. n. annadurai. don't add the tamil text for "perarignar anna". The tamil transcription exists for educating the reader how the english word is written in the native script. adding two different things will confuse the user 2) while adding honorifics like "kalaignar" and "anna" make sure they are properly explained in the article text like "he is popularly known as anna", "he is called by his supporters as "kalaignar". Because while we use honorifics/titles we need to make clear what they are and not part of the name.

Also be careful while adding anything not universally accepted. eg kalaignar or puratch thalaivi. While "periyar" and "anna" are universally accepted titles, these two are not. They will lead to edit wars from someone for the other party trying to outdo others. We have had instances where people have added "manbumigu doctor kalaignar" etc. So be extra careful while handling honorifics.--Sodabottle (talk) 04:25, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

Rajinikanth

Hi, I see that you've been doing many good faith edits in the Rajinikanth and Enthiran pages, but I'm kindly requesting you to refrain from adding Enthiran salary details on the intro section of Rajinikanth. It is already written and sourced in another part of the article and his salary in Enthiran was not significant to his career unlike his salary for Sivaji, which made him the second-highest paid actor in Asia. Thanks. EelamStyleZ (talk) 19:13, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Image rationales

Hello, if you wish to add a non-free image rationale in a case like this, it would be much more helpful if you didn't use meaningless boilerplate legalese, but actually explain what purpose this particular image is to be used for in this particular article. What is it meant to illustrate? This would be very important to know so I can decide whether to file it at FFD or not. Thank you, – Fut.Perf. 14:10, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Its done to present the appearance of the subject and it makes the article complete becoz of its significance in the subject. This is fair use and has no intentions other than mentioned. ---- Ungal Vettu Pillai (talk) 14:26, 25 February 2011 (UTC)

Rajinikanth

Well unfortunately I can't give any kind of protection to any articles because I don't have the authority to do so - I'm not an admin. If you think an article needs protection from unregistered editors, then you would have to request that here. In the meantime, we'll just have to settle with manually taking out the bad edits ourselves. :) EelamStyleZ (talk) 04:19, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

I don't understand. Why are you appealing to me? The image is still there at the article and no one has tried removing it. It appears to be a good image and I don't think there are any copyright issues with it. EelamStyleZ (talk) 16:12, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Rajinikanth birthdate

Hm, that video has Rajini's brother clearly stating 1950. Looks like Wikipedia has got it wrong all these days. Do you have any better source that mentions Rajini's birth date as 12-12-1950, such as Times of India, Behindwoods, Sify, etc.? YouTube video cannot be used as a source. EelamStyleZ (talk) 21:26, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

You can't criticize Wikipedia's policies or any editors who cite policies to reject certain kinds of sources because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. This means that whatever source is used in Wikipedia must be academic and reliable. YouTube videos, blogs, fansites, or anything else that possibly presents biased information is not academic and hence not suitable for an encyclopedia. And, umm, no, when Behindwoods says 2010 was Rajini's 61st birthday, that actually means they are saying Rajini was born in 1949, meaning Rajini's first birthday (when he turned 1) was in 1950. Anyhow, I still changed Rajini's birthday to 1950 to a source that we used a few years ago, but somewhere along the line someone changed it to 1949 using an inappropriate site. Also, be aware that Behindwoods and IndiaGlitz aren't totally legit sites either. There are many times where their writers rely on potentially false information from Wikipedia. That's probably why that Behindwoods site says Rajini turned 61 in 2010, when he actually turned 60. EelamStyleZ (talk) 22:48, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Rajini's image

The image of Rajini you're using is dark and a bit too large. Why do you insist on using that one when there are much better shots of him at Wikimedia Commons? EelamStyleZ (talk) 13:05, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

Didn't have to get all sentimental there. But I'll go ahead and leave it for your sake. EelamStyleZ (talk) 15:54, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi frnd I was about to ask the same. I see lot of reverts and edits in the article. Like you said its not good for a recently listed GA. Be more sensible and serious on edits. Yes sometimes there may be a lack of comm as you mention now. I would say wait and be more responsible than to edit more or to bring more subject/content. Tamil Population

User:Keyan20, I did notice that you have mentioned the population of Tamils in India as 7.21 c in Tamil diaspora. But I guess it's the total population of Tamil Nadu, which also includes non-tamils. It's obvious that, Tamils also live in other parts of India. Bangalore alone had 1.7 million Tamils in 2001. The census report denotes the total population of the state and not Tamils. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 06:21, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Re Bollywoodhungama

For all images on the site "Permission is granted to copy, distribute and/or modify these images, providing the site is attributed and a direct link running to the source on their site is provided". So there won't be any problems with copyright. I've tried but it's very difficult to crop the picture leaving the logo. In that case the image becomes too small. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 11:35, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Halo stop your POV

This was a constructive edit - excess POV and advertising is noticed in the article Tamil cinema when compared to other regional cinema articles of India. In other regional industries, excessive POV was forcefully removed by the administrators. List of actors was not allowed to be listed in Telugu cinema article and how can they allow this here???. You edit and include this in Telugu cinema article, then I will not edit. NOTE: For tamil cinema??? one law and for telugu cinema and kannada??? cinema other law??? what do u think u can include non sense like business model??? Yours is vandalism - the edits are being reverted by a BOT - now i ahve reported false positive and yours will become vandalism. You edit and include this below info in Telugu cinema article, until then I will not allow POV in Tamil cinema

This clearly shows the IP user's hatred for the Tamil language/cinema. WP:Assume good faith is the foremost prinicipe of Wikipedia. If you want to improve Telugu cinema go ahead and improve don't mess up other articles. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 17:17, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Also my dear IP! did you check other cinema articles. They do mention about actors. --Thalapathi (Ping Back) 17:21, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
