Northamerica1000, I was wondering whether you'd be willing, even on your semi-wiki break, to return to your review here and check over the recent ALT hook proposals, given that April Fools' Day is almost here and the sets need to be made up within the next 24 hours. Many thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 14:57, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset: I think I'm going to pass. I'm not interested in the direction the discussion is going there with the "sorcery for your vagina" bit. What if readers have a penis? Use of the word "your" in the hooks is a bit patronizing/assumptive toward the reader. The word "your" should be replaced for the word "the" at the very least. While I understand that it's for April Fools day, I just don't think it's that funny. So, I provided a review for the initial hook, and I think I'm going to leave it at that. North America1000 16:19, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I've put a "review again" icon on it. BlueMoonset (talk) 23:07, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
Help
Dear friend, a while ago you helped to improve a search template for me called {{Friendly search suggestions}} I use it for new articles written by new editors and has been very valuable - I use it myself all the time. I have found other reference search templates that I would like added to the {{Friendly search suggestions}} I can edit simple templates, but I can't seem to be able to handle this. Here are the other search templates I would like to add to {{Friendly..... :
- {{Find sources multi/gbooks}}}
- {{Find sources multi/gfreeimages}}
- {{Find sources multi/archive}}
- {{ Find sources multi/bing}}
- {{ Find sources multi/gnewsrecent}}
- {{Find sources multi/ddg}}
- {{ Find sources 4 }}
p.s. DMOZ Bfpage let's talk... 11:45, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
If you would do this for me, I would be sorely tempted to shower your talk page with awards (but I promise to control myself).

- Hi Barbara (WVS): I looked into this a bit, and an awesome {{Friendly search suggestions}} template with a multitude of options is a great idea to me. There are several ways this can be accomplished. It will take some time for me to go over matters, (I'm taking a semi-Wikibreak, but have been around lately) and I'll try to respond here later with more information. In the meantime, check out the {{Search for}} template (example at right), which provides options not found on other find sources templates. North America1000 16:30, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! There is no hurry at all. I have been amazed to find the template so widely used - at least a couple of thousand articles so far!! You remember working on it with me, right? If not, that is fine. It wouldn't be such a fine template if it weren't for you...perhaps you remember working on Chips and Dip with me a while ago, you didn't go for the postulated theory of deaths related to superbowl parties where people were double-dipping into the guacamole...it was the funnest editing collaboration I have ever gotten to do. Thanks for all that you do. The Very Best of Regards,
Update
Hello Barbara (WVS): I have updated the {{Friendly search suggestions}} template manually (diff). Check it out now. Below is a summary.
- {{Find sources multi/gbooks}} – Already in the template
- {{Find sources multi/gfreeimages}} – Already in the template
- {{Find sources multi/archive}} – Added
- {{Find sources multi/bing}} – Added
- {{Find sources multi/gnewsrecent}} – Already in the template
- {{Find sources multi/ddg}} – Added
Template:Find sources 4 is flagged to be merged into Template:Find sources per this discussion from 2015 August 30. When this is done, then some of the additions I made to the Friendly search suggestions will need to be removed, because the template will then have duplicate content. North America1000 15:31, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
- I usually don't do this but.....thank you, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!
- The Very Best of Regards,
Update2
I have also added searches for Questia, Microsoft Academic and WorldCat to the {{Friendly search suggestions}} template. North America1000 15:58, 27 March 2017 (UTC)
Why, oh why?
When ever I read one of your food articles, I get pretty hungry.
- Best Regardsm
- Hi Bfpage: Perhaps you were already hungry, and the article served as a food cue, further triggering hunger. Well, at least "pretty hungry" is not the same as being famished. Regardless, all editors should write food articles once in a while. North America1000 00:14, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Draft move from userspace to draft space
Hello,
I'm just curious why you moved one of my draft articles from User:AHeneen/sandbox/Gulf carriers to Draft:Gulf carriers. Is there some policy change recently? Wikipedia:Drafts nor Help:Userspace draft says anything about when an article should be in the draft space and when it may be in the userspace. The former mentions that "[e]ditors may ... choose to create draft pages in their userspace". My only concern about the different article spaces is that drafts are usually deleted after a period of inactivity. That can be problematic. You can leave the Gulf carriers article in the draft space as I intend to finish it to move to the mainspace soon. AHeneen (talk) 04:16, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
- Hello AHeneen: I typically move content from user space into draft space for inactive users whose drafts have not been edited for at least one year. In my checks, I noticed that your draft had not been edited in over a year, but overlooked somehow that you're actually an active user. Sorry for that. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if I can be of any assistance. North America1000 23:58, 24 March 2017 (UTC)
Deletion of "Keith Johnson (author)"
Extended content
|
---|
Hello Northamerica1000, (First; my apologies if I am contacting you in the wrong way, or am contacting the wrong person ... I tried another way to send my message, but that didn't seem to work. But assuming you are the right person to talk to about this, then ...).
2) The website www.timetabler.com referred to in the article is not Keith Johnson’s personal website – it is the website of a company of which he is not a director nor a shareholder nor an employee. 3) The work Keith Johnson did on school textbooks, and on the teaching of Physics in the United Kingdom especially, but also around the world … was revolutionary, and changed the way science textbooks have been written ever since. Many of the articles referred to in the Wikipedia entry, demonstrate this. 4) Any author who has been read by several million children across the globe must surely be ‘notable’ by definition, and worthy of recognition on Wikipedia ?
2) remove any links that no longer work 3) find and add new external links (to established sources, for example: Amazon’s “Author Central”) 4) emphasise the novel aspects of Keith’s contributions to education and the teaching of Physics around the world.
Deletion of Aricle "Keith Johnson (Author)"Dear Northamerica1000, I was hoping to weigh in on the topic mentioned by Caltheon in the above section. I actually sent you an email about this same issue some weeks ago, but couldn't work out how to use the 'You've got mail' Wikipedia template to let you know - so I fully understand that you may not have received it. Either way, this is the transcript, which I hope will add weight to that which Caltheon has put above: "Dear Northamerica1000, I'm very new to Wikipedia, so I hope I've done the right thing in emailing you with my problem. Please advise me if I should have done something different ! I appreciate you must be very busy, but I was hoping to convince you of the merits of a recently deleted page (or if this is not the appropriate way to do it, glean some idea of how I should go about this !). On Monday 23rd January 2017, I believe you resolved a discussion over the deletion of a page for Keith Johnson (Author), here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Keith_Johnson_(author). I had better state from the offset that I am the grandson of the author, but I'm acting under my own steam and was not directly involved in the initial creation of the page. From the offset the page was problematic, because of the lack of online source material to support assertions in the article. This, unfortunately, is a product of the times, and much of Keith Johnson's work was done in the days before reviews etc were digitized. I am sure this cannot be the first page to suffer from this fact, so I wonder what has been done in other cases to circumvent this ? Those who initially set up the page tried to digitize the sources themselves - hosting them on Keith Johnson's personal webpage. This, then, is the reason for such links. I admit, there is room there for abuse - but these reviews are all reputable (only in hard form). Regardless of my affiliation to the author, I would also seriously challenge the suggestion that none 'of the teaching tools or textbooks he has written are at all notable' (E.M. Gregory at 11:22, 17 January 2017). I know that personal anecdotes count for very little on a site so keen to ensure integrity as Wikipedia, but it is absolutely true that Physics For You was the first textbook in Britain to cater for the level of student it was designed for. That meant pictures next to the text to which it related, colour, and a big emphasis on readability. Aside from reviews, I wonder how else this could be proved ? If it were possible to substantiate these facts, I feel absolutely sure that you would wish to reconsider the page's deletion since these concepts are - undeniably - revolutionary. Textbooks throughout the world have since adopted the same style. Even now, if I mention 'Physics for You' to people of my age (for example, to other students at my university) they unfailingly say how much it changed their appreciation of physics. If you are able to offer any potential solutions as to how this could be legitimately conveyed through referencing, I would be extremely grateful. I have, incidentally, found a few more online references to the book (or Keith Johnson) in academic works: -- The work is referenced in two JSTOR articles by Marc Rosner (surprising given that it is designed as a teaching aid at secondary level): Rosner, Marc, 'COLOR CONSTRUCTION: Teach color composition with a computer', The Science Teacher, 62(3) (1995), pp. 23-26. Rosner, Marc, 'Change in the Classroom: Coins and currency provide for a wealth of numismatic experiments', The Science Teacher, 64(4) (1997), pp. 26-28. --- It is also reviewed by Christine Stone in 'Reviews', Physics Education, 32(3) (1997). She describes it as 'a wonderful input', 'a treasury', 'a winner for teachers', a 'book focused on the pupils' involvement and enjoyment of each topic'. She also recognises that 'a lot of thought has gone into the layout... different fonts and colour boxes have been used to highlight... vocabulary, formulae, experiments and summaries'. This wouldn't need mentioning if it was the norm in textbooks of the time. Again slightly anecdotal, but I believe indicative of its prevalence in academic circles, 'Physics for You' and 'Advanced Physics for You' are both available in the university libraries of UK Russell Group establishments, such as Durham University. In total, Durham University has 8 copies of Johnson's books in its various libraries. Any author who has sold two million copies of his books has had a considerable impact on the education of many, many millions of children (since textbooks get reused) on a global scale. This is surely worthy of recognition on Wikipedia. I hope you agree. Thank you very much for your time, and feel free to redirect me elsewhere if this isn't the appropriate way to appeal the decision. Kind Regards, CJ" Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CJ Dur HistFr (talk • contribs) 11:11, 27 March 2017 (UTC)

- Following a discussion on the backlog of unpatrolled files, consensus was found to create a new user right for autopatrolling file uploads. Implementation progress can be tracked on Phabricator.
- The BLPPROD grandfather clause, which stated that unreferenced biographies of living persons were only eligible for proposed deletion if they were created after March 18, 2010, has been removed following an RfC.
- An RfC has closed with consensus to allow proposed deletion of files. The implementation process is ongoing.
- After an unsuccessful proposal to automatically grant IP block exemption, consensus was found to relax the criteria for granting the user right from needing it to wanting it.
- After a recent RfC, moved pages will soon be featured in a queue similar to Special:NewPagesFeed and require patrolling. Moves by administrators, page movers, and autopatrolled editors will be automatically marked as patrolled.
- Cookie blocks have been deployed. This extends the current autoblock system by setting a cookie for each block, which will then autoblock the user if they switch accounts, even under a new IP.

Deletion of Victor IkeHello Northamerica1000 , Thanks for the reply. sorry i could'nt reply back earlier cos i did'nt wanna make the same mistake by writing you back through the appreciation section but big thanks to John of Reading, who told me to write you here, when i complained about not been able to reach your 'talk page' I'm sorry, and i disagree with the community determining that the subject does not presently meet Wikipedia's notability standards. and no disrespect, - But some of those i have been reading here on English wikipedia do not have good music profile like this subject and they have never worked with hollywood stars on their projects, if it's that easy but the subject they claimed does not meet the wikipedia's notability standards, has featured hollywood stars on his album project. you can listen to it here on itunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/im-on-fire/id1178350332 - He has performed on stage with Hollywood, European and African stars, Atleast he met DMX and the ruff ryders, he featured on his album project doing a concert he was invited to play with them, when he was on european tour. you can check his updates on facebook page:https://www.facebook.com/VictorIkeOfficial/, Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/victorikeofficial/, Twitter: https://twitter.com/victorikemusic, Myspace: https://myspace.com/victorikemusic, Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCerZ45_2EVOxf0nduoGRHYw, http://www.artisttrove.com/artist/146677702056741/Victor+Ike - He co-produced a track in his album 'Can't live without U' Featuring Ruff ryders female rapper "KASH" with a famous hippop producer 'Dame Grease', who producers for DMX,L.O.X.,MASE,50 CENT,JAY-Z,T.I.,MAX B,FRENCH MONTANA,MARY J.BLIGE,KELIS,RICK ROSS.CURRENSY,LIL WAYNE,NORE,NAS,WAVE GANG,WU you can check him here on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dame_Grease_production_discography - His Album "I'm on fire" is released in America by CD BABY(USA), presently released by Sony(Sony Dadc) in Asia pacific and coming out soon in Europe. I believe the subject meets wikipedia's notability standard and it will be unfair to remove the subject wikipedia. I google the subject yesterday and i noticed some people are using his photo image to promote other Nigerian artist music, using the same name and confusing the subject followers with their illegal acts, which is unfair. I guess they were the ones that hacked his website, which i read was hacked on his updates. i had to write some of the sites and blogs using his photos to remove his photos from their blog. i also sent a message to the subject management yesterday of the illegal act cos i'm a fan of his job. you can check one of the subject photos on google, where he was carrying a guitar on his shoulder, when you click the photo link below, you see that they are using his photo to promote a different artist on many blogs, confussing this subject fans, which is not proper and illegal. https://www.ngospelmedia.com/2014/10/okaka-lyrics-by-frank-edwards-ft-victor.html Please could you kindly verrify if the wikipedia users from Nigeria, that nominated the subject deletion from wikipedia on the history i read, are not playing an unfair game to block this subject from wikipedia, so that they could still continue to confuse the subject fans,like they almost confused me, promoting the other artist, giving people impression that he sang those songs, which was'nt him. logical, if the subject, who is an English Soul R&B singer, meets the French Wikipedia's notability standards, then i think there must be a problem somewhere with some of the community that gave decision. this is the subject french wikipedia link: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Ike For User:CactusWriter, I'm still working to get better here on wikipedia and i'm so sorry if i got it wrong then, that's why i was a little careful not to reply your message fast, so that i would'nt break some of the many rules i'm seeing here on wikipedia. lol! thanks to John of Reading, who assisted. please i will appreciate it if you could undelete and restore the article, so that i could continue working on it and since you are a 'Pro' on wikipedia, lol! i will be glad if you and John of Reading also could help out in this article edit. this are some of the sources below of the article, i found on google. Deletion of Victor Ike |
Thanks Northamerica1000, That sounds good! please userfy the deleted article to my user space, so that i could work on it and add some useful sources i just discovered. i will do the following process you stated, to republish the article and also send you a copy, if you don't mind, to have a look before republishing it. Thank you again & Best regards, -Tracy
- Hello Tracy Williams: Per our discussion herein, I have userfied the article to User:Tracy Williams/Victor Ike. Please do not simply republish the article in the state it was in, as it will simply be deleted again per WP:G4 as a recreation of a deleted article that occurred per a deletion discussion. Rather, I encourage you to start a new article from scratch, using sources that demonstrate the subject's notability, comply with Wikipedia guidelines regarding verification, and comply with the use of reliable sources. Note that Wikipedia articles should not be based upon primary sources, which the userfied article mostly relies upon, although some primary sources can be used to verify information for significant content, preferably only when secondary and tertiary sources are not available. Additionally, some of the sources in the article do not appear to be reliable per Wikipedia's standards.
- I cannot guarantee that I will contribute to reviewing a new article draft, and I still strongly recommend submitting a revised version of the article to Articles for creation. Again, this can be easily performed when you are ready by simply adding {{Userspace draft}} atop the draft page and then selecting the "Submit your draft for review" link. For your continuing good work when others (like me) have given up. Bearian (talk) 16:37, 1 April 2017 (UTC) |
- Hi Bearian Thanks. Hopefully this isn't an April Fools joke. I can understand giving up "the tools", particularly when one is a busy person, as per your user page. North America1000 16:55, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- No, really, thank you for closing some difficult discussions! Bearian (talk) 16:56, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
- @Bearian: Thanks. Lately I've been on-wiki less, but still pitching in here and there when there's time. North America1000 16:58, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Tidy is going to be replaced with an HTML5 parsing algorithm. Bad HTML in wikitext would cause problems on a number of wikis. There is now a ParserMigration extension on all wikis that you can use to help clean this up. You can read more about how you can use it. [9]
Changes this week
- Some older web browsers will not be able to use JavaScript on Wikimedia wikis from this week. If you have an old web browser on your computer you can upgrade to a newer version. [10]
- New filters for Recent changes will come to Wikidata and Persian, Russian, Turkish and French Wikipedia on 11 April. The schedule has been changed to fix the user intent prediction filters for some wikis. User intent prediction means the filter tries to make it easier for editors to determine if the edit was made in good faith or not. Other wikis will get it later. [11]
- The list of special characters in the wikitext editor and the visual editor will now have a group of Canadian Aboriginal characters. [12]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 April. It will be on all wikis from 13 April (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 11 April at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for 20 to 30 minutes on 19 April and 3 May. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. You can read more about this.
- RevisionSlider will change how you move between revisions. This will be available on the test wiki from 11 April. It will come to other wikis later if users like the change. You can test it and give feedback.

Procedural close of rxfd libertarian socialist parties
Hi thank you for your help with this article. would you point me to the Procedural close guideline, a quick search failed in wp. Darkstar1st (talk) 12:19, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Darkstar1st: As you noticed, I procedurally closed your two category nominations at Articles for deletion because categories are discussed at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion. I'll leave it to you if you want to renominate the pages there. If you choose to do so, I recommend reading WP:NOTDUP first, which denotes how overlapping categories, lists and navigation templates are not considered duplicative. Regarding procedural closures, see WP:PROCEDURALCLOSE for more information. North America1000 12:46, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes
- You can add
?safemode=1
to the end of the URL on Wikimedia wikis to disable your personal CSS and JavaScript. Example:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literature?safemode=1
. This means you can test if a problem is because of your user scripts or gadgets without uninstalling them. [13] - You can now see a list of all autoblocks on Special:AutoblockList. [14]
- The Wikiversity and Wikinews logos are now shown directly from the configuration and not from
[[File:Wiki.png]]
. If you want to change logo or have an anniversary logo, see how to request a configuration change. This is how it already works for other projects. They can request logo changes the same way. [15]
Problems
- Because of a data centre test you will be able to read but not edit the wikis for 20 to 30 minutes on 19 April. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time. You can read more about this. This will also happen on 3 May.
Changes this week
- There is no new Mediawiki version this week. This is because of the data centre test.
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 18 April at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- stats.wikimedia.org will be replaced. You can see the new prototype. You can leave feedback on this change.
- Page Previews will be turned on for logged-out users on a large number of wikis in May. It could be postponed and happen later. Page Previews shows readers a short part of a linked article when they rest their mouse pointer on the link. This is to help them understand what it is about without leaving the article they are reading. Page Previews used to be called Hovercards. Users who have tested the feature can give feedback. [16]
- From next week, user scripts using very old deprecated wikibits functions will show errors. These functions have not worked since 2013. You should fix or disable broken scripts. You can see examples of how to upgrade scripts. [17][18]

Recent changes
- New filters for recent changes are now available as a beta feature on most wikis. You can turn it on in your preferences. Remaining wikis will have the new filters on 9 May. [19]
- When administrators, bureaucrats and stewards make a user a member of a user group they can now set an expiry date. A user group is for example "administrators" or "bots". This means that they can give someone user rights for a limited time. This is similar to how blocks and page protections can be limited in time. Special:UserRights will have new options for this. You can read more about user groups. [20]
Problems
- Since the data centre test last week the content translation tool has been disabled. This is because of a database problem. It will be back as soon as the problem has been solved. [21]
Changes this week
- The GuidedTour extension will be enabled on all wikis. This is a tool to explain to new users how to edit. [22]
- Wiktionary will handle interlanguage links in a new way. The Cognate extension will automatically link pages with the same title between Wiktionaries. For this to work all old interlanguage links have to be removed. You can read more about this. [23]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 25 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 26 April. It will be on all wikis from 27 April (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the next meeting with the VisualEditor team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 25 April at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
