Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a message letting you know that one or more of your recent edits to 2011 Sikkim earthquake have been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 23:23, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Quake1234! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Dawnseeker2000 23:28, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dawnseeker, I’m 14 and I love earthquakes too, I maybe young and sometimes the edits may be mistakes or Actually Vandalism, but the young is supposed to make mistakes, if the edit is false and is edited back, then I will not revert it back, Quake1234 (talk) 23:30, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of earthquakes in 2004, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Papua. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

An article you recently created, 2009 Tonga earthquake, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Earthquake intensity

[edit]

Hello again, please check the "impact" section of the USGS link in articles. A lot of the times it's in the infobox labeled "Comcat". In the impact section, you will find a seismologist's interpretation of the felt effects and they will give a few intensity values for several different locations. The difference between using the figures in the impact section versus the shakemap is that it's preferable to use the words of a scientists over those of a computer simulation. Changes to intensity

[edit]

Hi, I've reverted the unexpected changes you've made to some earthquake articles in regards to their seismic intensities. The USGS knows what they're doing so we should follow their ShakeMap intensity rather than one or two stations reporting something else. You shouldn't be extrapolating seismic stations, and using that as evidence for the claimed intensity. Also those "circle" stations are DYFI reports, not actual stations. You can ping Dawnseeker and/or Mike for their insights. Dora the Axe-plorer (Nopen't) 23:16, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sorry about this just the Shakemap stations, that are little dots or triangles that tell you how intense the shaking was in a location. I am very sorry and I will always follow the Shakemap. Thank you for reading this. Quake1234 (talk) 09:32, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Another issue with your contributions are the ShakeMaps in the recent revisions of 2021 Crete earthquake and 2021 Chignik earthquake; the are obviously too large. It appears you inserted File:2021 Chignik earthquake shakemap.jpg into the | image = parameter. To avoid the oversized image, just remove File:. It should be | image = 2021 Chignik earthquake shakemap.jpg. Please take note of this when inserting ShakeMaps into the infobox. Cheers. --Dora the Axe-plorer (Nopen't) 22:51, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Notice

The article 2020 Kamchatka earthquake has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Wikipedia:ITEXISTS Yes it is a large earthquake (largest since ...), but without any lasting impacts whatsoever, it does not need an article. Also, this event was first published under 2020 Kuril Islands earthquake before being turned to a redirect.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dora the Axe-plorer (Nopen't) 02:53, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Quake1234: I think the page you created should stay in it's current state and have said so in the AfD. But I also think it could be improved by adding info from the detailed analysis of the quake from ScienceDirect[1]. I don't have the knowledge to do an appropriate job of that, but I think you might. -- Bob drobbs (talk) 06:10, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 2002 Manokwari earthquake requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.preprints.org/manuscript/201704.0081/v1/download. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Mass stub/start creation

[edit]

Hello, I am a rather new editor who mainly edits Wikiproject:Earthquakes articles, and I have seen you pop in the edit history from time to time. I looked into your page creations, and all of them seem to be either a start or stub class, with the exception of 1987 Chiba earthquake which seems to have had significant contributions from other editors. I appreciate your work in creating new articles on wikipedia, however I feel that creating lots of low quality articles goes against what Wikipedia is for. Perhaps it would be better if some of your time was spent on upping all of your articles to C class for example? Anyway, just some thoughts I had, feel free to let me know what you think and if I can help with that. SamBroGaming (talk) 09:06, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Quake1234 Re-reading my message, I come off across as quite harsh, and this is not my intent. I appreciate your contributions to wiki, so keep it up. My only concern is that a lot of your articles are not rated higher than start class, and since you create lots of articles, my concern is that as WP:ARTASS says, creating many start class articles may discourage other editors from touching your articles, and thus overall lowering the quality of articles that you create. I feel that if you worked on improving some of the articles you created to C class or above, potentially some other editor down the line may be more likely to improve it further. Again, let me know if you would like my help with improving some of your articles as I would love to do some of that as well. Thanks, SamBroGaming (talk) 01:37, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. While I appreciate your attempts to convert the list into a table, could you make a good habit to fill in the edit summary boxes? Those edits to the 2011 list were really huge changes, and without the edit summary filled, set off an alarm in me for potentially damaging/unhelpful edits. I had to review them one-by-one to understand that your intentions were good. It would really help other editors understand what's going on, especially with major changes to the article, although, an edit summary for even the smallest edits is recommended. Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give 2022 Qinghai earthquake a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Quake1234, it will have to be in the list regardless as it's mag 6 or greater. If it was less than mag 6, it would not be included unless there was evidence of significant damage in reliable sources. That's how Wikipedia works, we have to be able to verify that an event meets the criteria set out before inclusion, we shouldn't be including an event just on the off chance it might turn out to be worthy of inclusion. Can you help me?

[edit]

Yeah, it's the first time I'll ask help from you, Quake1234, but there is a citation on List of earthquakes in 2023 in which there appears to be "#invoke:citation/CS1" and "Template:Cite news" errors that I don't know how to fix. Thanks! Filipinohere (talk) 13:02, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I've been trying to fix it too. When it comes to advice, I guess you should contact an admin about the problem. The templates say #invoke:citation as well, so I had to remove them until the error's fixed. Quake1234 (talk) 13:04, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, one Wikipedian have told me that the Post-expand include size was so large so this problem exists. So what should we do? Filipinohere (talk) 13:21, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We could shorten the text of some longer earthquake descriptions, or maybe changing the source could work. I've added an earthquake in China when the error was already there, but it didn't worsen anything. Two templates at the bottom (earthquakes by year and earthquakes of 2023) also don't work (it shows up as "#invoke:navbox" instead), so I had to remove them (as a failed attempt to fix the errors). If we keep trying new ways to fix these errors, a miracle may happen, even if we might fail 95% of the time. We can do this! Quake1234 (talk) 13:27, 2 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign language titles in references

[edit]

Hi, I just wanted to reach out in a friendly and informative way; I noticed several of your edits to 2024 Noto earthquake where you added references did not follow the style guide laid out at Help:Citation Style 1#Titles and chapters for use in templates such as Template:Cite news or Template:Cite web. Crucially, a romanization of the non-Latin script title should be used in the |title= parameter. The way I personally choose to do this is by simply pasting the non-Latin script into Google translate and the romanization appears underneath it. The rest of this you already seem to know: for titles in non-Latin scripts, they should be added using |script-title=. For example, with Japanese, it would be |script-title=ja:. The English translation of the title is then used in |trans-title=, with |lang= or |language= being used to indicate the language of origin. I've already gone ahead and corrected the existing refs on the article to follow this style. I just wanted to let you know for future reference. Regards. IRIS has a YT video for this, though very generic, but it's nice. Cheers Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 12:34, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Citations

[edit]

Can you please stop using the url domain in the "website" parameter when doing citations as you have done here1 and here2. As per Wikipedia editing policy you must give proper attribution.

For example;

  • USGS uses the Template:Cite anss for example ANSS. "M 8.2 - near the coast of Chiapas, Mexico 2017". Comprehensive Catalog. U.S. Geological Survey.
  • NGDC requires to use this: [2]

Please all your improper citations. Use this as a reference for faster editing, not the url domain, it's lazy and incorrect Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 22:03, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To make citations easier, copy + paste these example templates whenever you need them. Edit the url and access date in these templates when required:

Add the template between <ref>...</ref> so it becomes a reference

Now that I've sent you these, I shouldn't have to come to this talk page regarding improper attribution to these common sources. Please make the effort, as it has been pretty frustrating for me to clean up after someone else's work especially after repeatedly reaching out on their talk page and I think you would feel the same way if the roles were reversed. I understand you have a goal to make Wikipedia's coverage of earthquakes better; quality content also includes proper attributions. I would appreciate your cooperation and effort do better with citations now that I have given you templates. Please let me know if you have difficulties in giving attributions. Thank youDora the Axe-plorer (explore) 05:11, 10 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your user pages/sandboxes

[edit]

Hi, I notice you have created a number of user pages and sandboxes with earthquake scenarios for what seems like personal entertainment and unrelated to the Project. These kind of pages fall under WP:UP#GOALS which goes against Wikipedia's guidelines for user pages. If you want to create such content, please create your own blog, not Wikipedia. Cheers. Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 10:23, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't you listening? Do not create sandboxes for hoaxes on Wikipedia. You're misusing your editing rights. Please clear all of them immediately. Let this be your final reminder otherwise there will be admin intervention. You cannot use sandboxes this way. Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 15:59, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
After reading your response, I immediately emptied out the sandboxes. I'm already moving the unencyclopedic stuff that used to be in those sandboxes to Fandom's "Hypotheical Earthquakes Wiki", so at least I'm putting them in a more appropriate place than Wikipedia. From now on I'll only use my sandboxes to try and develop actual pages for some notable earthquakes that have yet to have their own spotlight in the site. In simple terms, I'm now using the sandboxes for what they're actually mean't for. Quake1234 (talk) 16:38, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Earthquakes project has some open tasks including creating new articles you can redirect your attention to.
I'm taking two (2020 Sparta earthquake, 1991 Hindu Kush earthquake) articles for GA assessment. There are many articles with the potential for GA status after some tweakings. If you're keen to challenge yourself, you can attempt to improve one article and take it to GA class. Cheers Dora the Axe-plorer (explore) 10:19, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help to improve this article if you are interested. Pachu Kannan (talk) 05:15, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ITN recognition for 2024 Wayanad landslides

I noticed that you moved the article 2024 August Bangladesh floods to August 2024 Bangladesh floods by directly copy its text to the another title if I am not wrong. The way you used to move is incorrect because the way removed other user's contribution from the article's revision history. Wikipedia contains and values other user's contributions. So when we make that a redirect to change its name, the new page would not contain their contribution on the page revision history anymore, that would go to the redirect. I humbly request you to restraint moving page using that way. Instead use Wikipedia:Requested moves to move the page if you unable to do so. Mehedi Abedin 09:34, 29 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
