Wikimania 2020 Bangkok

[edit]

Hi Rich. I won't be going to Stockholm most unfortunately, because I really can't afford $3,000 just for 5 days in the far north of Europe. I'll leave that trip to the Europeans and the 70-strong WMF junket. But next year Wikimania is right on my doorstep. I hope you will be able to come. I will be making absolutely sure that my friends who are able to come will have a great time. Regards, Chris. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:38, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

That's very kind of you, I didn't know 2020 was Bangcock. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 07:29, 2 July 2019 (UTC).[reply]

math error

Removing the space in math-mode after the escape character \ will produce a math error: [1]. --Boehm (talk) 19:42, 5 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Pyrotechnics portal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Use dmy dates

[edit]

Hi. I appreciate your efforts to add {{Use dmy dates}}, but for several days now, almost half of what I see on my watchlist is you adding this template to articles that aren't probably ever going to need it: in the topic areas that I edit, I can't remember ever seeing any disagreement of any sort surrounding the formatting of dates. Not even once. If the template does anything here, that's wikicode clutter. If your goal is to add it to all Wikiproject India articles, then wouldn't a bot request be the best way? – Uanfala (talk) 20:26, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

One has to be careful of articles which are about multiple places and I suspect that a WP:BRFA would be declined per WP:CONTEXTBOT. However if it is distracting you I am happy to slow down this particular task, which is, after all dull (though almost done). All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 20:42, 19 July 2019 (UTC).[reply]
Oh, if you're almost done then there's no need to slow down. My watchlist won't mind seeing a few more of these. I take it that you haven't planned to then start adding the template to articles from other projects? – Uanfala (talk) 21:13, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe in due course. The Pitcairn Islands would not take long!
I have some probably more important work on replacing meaningless reference names (like ref name=":0" with ref name="Smith 2004"), which I would like to get underway once again.

A fewnomial is a polynomial with a fixed number of terms, where the coefficients and degrees can vary.

If that's supposed to be a definition, is there any polynomial that is not a fewnomial? Can you give an example of one that is, and one that is not? Michael Hardy (talk) 03:45, 30 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think the definition of lacunary polynomial in L. Redei is different, which concerns me. I had been intending to buy a copy of this for a few pounds, but I think it sold. I will return to this, over the next few days. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 16:26, 31 July 2019 (UTC).[reply]
