TV screenshot of recording artist being used solely to show what the artist looks like. This is not an appropriate claim of fair use. Also, it looks like the image was probably a still photo ... TV stations don't generally create their own still photos, so the copyright holder is likely some unknown third party. B (talk) 12:42, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned. Image of a US coin. The uploader's comments say that it is in the public domain as a slavish copy of a 2D object, however I think coins are 3D objects. B (talk) 14:52, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment the file says the coin is from 1800. 65.94.47.63 (talk) 10:31, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Keep - The uploader used an incorrect license tag. We have one for US coins, which I've added. DragonflyDC (talk) 21:21, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete, per nom. We have it on counsel's advice that coins should not be considered covered by Bridgeman vs Corel, because they must be considered 3D objects (with lighting issues, etc), not faithful reproductions of flat 2D objects. The license flag newly added by Dragonfly is not sufficient. There may be no relevant government copyright in the coin itself; but the photographer has a copyright in his/her photography of it. Unless that has been released, this has to be considered a non-free copyright photo, and thus to fail NFCC #1. Jheald (talk) 17:55, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- If that's the case, then the text of the copyright tag is incorrect and should be changed. DragonflyDC (talk) 20:04, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- It isn't a matter of changing the copyright tag. There's no fair use defense for using some random guy's photo of the coin. We can find one of these coins somewhere and make our own photo. We can ask the copyright holder to release it under the GFDL. In the world outside of Wikipedia, if you want to use some random guy's photo, you ask their permission or pay a royalty. We don't do those here, but that doesn't give us the right to use it without permission. It's a 3D object, so the photo is considered a creative work and our use of it is infringement. The same goes for the others. --B (talk) 19:48, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- If that's the case, then the text of the copyright tag is incorrect and should be changed. DragonflyDC (talk) 20:04, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - The coin is a 3D object over all, but each face of the coin is essentially a 2D object, with no more depth than a thickly-painted portrait. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:00, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free images of coins used only in a gallery. Image description page purports it is "used with permission". Certainly, a free image of this coin could be created ... and even if one couldn't be, non-free images used only in galleries are not permitted. B (talk) 14:58, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete, unless licensing can be better clarified with the photographer. Per discussion of File:Draped bust heraldic eagle.jpg immediately above. The question here is about the photographer's copyright, not the government's. Currently the image is being used "with permission of the photographer". That is not sufficient. We need a full release so that anybody has permission to use it. Jheald (talk) 18:03, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User claims to be the person who scanned this coin, but it's obviously the same scan as http://coinfacts.com/half_cents/half_cents_draped_bust.html . The Wikipedia image is scaled down (poorly), re-cropped (poorly), and has a caption, but the wear and discoloration are identical. The uploader also claims that a scan of a 2-D object is not copyrightable, but a coin is a 3-D object. B (talk) 15:05, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned, unencyclopedic - appears to be personal photo. SchuminWeb (Talk) 15:46, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep - "Orphaned" only applies to fair-use images, "Personal photo" is not a criteria for deletion (we encourage people to post images they own the copyright to, which will by and large be personal photos). "Unencyclopedic" - Please cite the policy that supports this as a deletion criteria. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:23, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Umm, no, none of that is true. Wikipedia is not free webhosting and if an image is not currently used and has no likely prospect for being used in the near future, we delete it. The uploader hasn't been here since 2009. Wikipedia:Image_use_policy#Deleting_images #4 specifically says that "unencyclopedic" and "likely to remain unused" are legitimate reasons to delete an image. --B (talk) 19:26, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Whether the uploader is active on WP is irrelevant, and rather than AGF that the uploader's description of the photo is accurate, and represents a Club Kid named Didi7, you'd rather assume that he lied, and it's a photo of himself? Do you have any evidence to support that? Considering that we have an article on Club Kids, why do you assume (again) that the photo is unlikely to be used? In short, there is no valid reason for deleting this. Beyond My Ken (talk) 21:54, 19 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Prior to this moment, I had never heard of Club Kids. Neither the description page nor your !vote linked to the article or gave any reason to believe this wasn't just some random guy's vanity photo. Obviously, if this photo is a real/notable thing, not just some random kid in a club, then it's useful. If you think this is an appropriate photo for the article, why don't you add it to the article? --B (talk) 00:49, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I considered it, but the phrase "Club Kid" is used in two senses, one specific, about a particular group of people, which our article is about, and one more general, about people who emulated that group, but were otherwise not well known. I did some research to determine if the person in the photo is in the first group or the second, but it was not conclusive, so I have not (yet) added the image. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:03, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
