Like a group of political advocates storming the White House, we'll be storming wikipedia!

Though of course, Jimmy Wales doesn't have 24/hour armed security so it's not like we'll be in any danger.

  • Location: All over the world
    • THATCampFeminisms West (Scripps College): We will be working in person (at Honnold-Mudd Library in Claremont) from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. EST. We are encouraging all THATCamp attendees to join us and we welcome those who cannot attend in person to join us virtually.
    • Duke University: We will be working in person at the FHI Conference Room, Bay 4, C-107, Smith Warehouse from 1pm-3pm. Anyone is welcome to join in, or if you cannot come physically, do think about joining us virtually! In addition to wiki editing, we'll be collaboratively constructing a speculative FemWikiBot (#femwikibot)
    • THATCampFeminisms South: Join us in person at Emory University Library – Jones Room, 3rd Floor, 11am -3pm EST
    • JustPublics@365 [1] at the Graduate Center of CUNY. 11am-3pm EST. 365 Fifth Avenue, Room 6304.01. Anyone welcome - just need a photo ID for entrance to the building.
  • Event: An edit-a-thon! Learn how to contribute to Wikipedia and collaborate with others to write about topics related to women and feminism!

Preparation and participation: Watch this video to learn just how to edit Wikipedia. Be sure to set aside some time for this video as it’s an hour long. (Although, we will provide editing help at the edit-a-thon, if you don’t have time to do this.)

Even if you can’t make it to one of our physical locations on the day of the edit-a-thon, you can participate virtually – use the hashtag #tooFEW to let us know you’re out there and to ask questions the day of.

Contribute to the world's most popular encyclopedia! In conjunction with THATCamp Feminisms and WikiWomen's History Month, several schools around the country are hosting a simultaneous Wikipedia edit-a-thon to improve the coverage of women, women's history, and feminism on Wikipedia. Join us! Anyone with an interest in editing collaboratively and having a great time is encouraged to attend.

What to bring

  • Ideas for topics or articles you might want to work on (though suggestions will be provided for those just looking to be put to work).
  • Any relevant reference materials you might have.
  • Any digital photos you've taken that you would like to use on Wikipedia.
  • Or, if you don't have any of the above, just bring yourself.

  • Goodness, that is a pretty awful article. Sometimes the best thing to do is just to cut everything that seems ridiculous, stick it on the talk page, and rewrite the summary yourself! Don't be afraid to, as we say around here, be bold :) -- phoebe / (talk to me) 22:39, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
followed up here with attempt to add more citations - I've only added links to digitized copies of her work from NYPL and Princeton libraries - hope that's useful to keep the article up for now; searching for more content to embellish the article meghaninmotion (talk) 15:16, 25 March 2013
  • Thanks for that! There's an article, 'Wives and daughters of early Berlin geoscientists and their work behind the scenes', with more relevant information but I'm having real trouble getting access to the Earth Sciences History journal. I'll try to get hold of it next time I'm at the British Library.Miamelba (talk) 13:23, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • I created a Wikipage for Beverly Guy-Sheftall. I started with just a little stub and a content warning that it might all be deleted but I kept at it. Some more senior wikipedians were actually very helpful in making the page stick by adding some sections to the entry and ISBN to the books. I was also able to edit the Spelman College, Women's studies, and Tip Drill pages with information that stuck! Moyazb (talk) 12:16, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
  • My minor edits and page suggestions on disambiguation pages were all deleted. That said, Bearcat took up my suggestion on the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives talk page that their national portrait collection inductees be listed. Now we can hook into that list to create new pages -- in fact Bearcat has started three barnstar-worthy ones: Persimmon Blackbridge, Jovette Marchessault and Lynne Fernie. Now I (we?) need to rush in there with links and peer-reviewed sources to make sure that the fledgling pages stay. SeMelmoth (talk) 18:54, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
