[edit]Toy cars of the 70s and early 80s
[edit]I'm trying to remember the names of two toy car product lines. One may be in my imagination, the other one isn't. Either way I can't find them here.
The first worked like this: The car's body was detachable from the chassis. In other words you could put a Mustang body onto the wheels, like it snapped on or something, and maybe these cars were associated with an accompanying race track? Either way you had options for what type of car you wanted to control.
The second was a early 80s line of toy cars/trucks that were battery operated, had enormous, gear-like wheels, and commercials featured these little things tackling all manner of terrain.
Any bells ringing out there? Wolfgangus (talk) 02:51, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- For the second... Tonka Toys? Astronaut (talk) 02:34, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
No, but by going to the Tonka page I saw the wheels, and seeing the wheels somehow gave me the name for that second one - Stompers - so, thanks for the suggestion! Wolfgangus (talk) 12:51, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- The first one sounds a lot like Darda (toy) -- Ferkelparade π 16:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Although I didn't see the mix-n-match body and chassis, Darda looks like a solid match. I appreciate all the help! Wolfgangus (talk) 18:09, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Old action film with an interesting ending
[edit]This is a long shot as Ive been trying to find out what this movie was called for the past fifteen years. Well, here goes. It must have been in 1982 or 83 that I saw this on HBO or the Movie Channel. The grainy nature of the film led me to believe it was a 70s movie or perhaps even late 60s. I cuaght the end and remember it well. There was some kind of island where a demon priest leader had gaurds and an unholy army. There were some heros on the island and towards the end they had all been captured. The priest then gives a speech and says "It is better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven!". In the next scene, one of the heros is being dragged down to a cell which is full of snakes- two of his friends are already dead in the cell having been bitten. The hero is locked up but escapes, then kills the guards and knocks out the priest. The priest is then dragged down to the same cell, coming to as he;s being locked inside it and scrams "No! No!" The hero doesnt listen and not only locks the door but bolts it with a huge iron bar. The scene then shifts to the hero leaving and screams are heard as the priest is bittne by the snakes. I'd love ot get my hands on this movie and see it again. Any ideas what the name of it is??? -OberRanks (talk) 04:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- This too is a long shot but the summary sounds somewhat similar: The Snake People with Boris Karloff? Wolfgangus (talk) 08:28, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
I've had a few people suggest that one, but that isnt it. It was more like a B movie action-martial arts film. Guess the mysery continues. -OberRanks (talk) 15:48, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Was it an oriental Kung-Fu movie? A fantasy like Krull or Conan the Barbarian? or was it more like a standard western thriller with fantastic elements like an Indiana Jones sort of thing? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.111.84.39 (talk) 22:11, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
It very much reminded me of a Bruce Lee film, like Enter the Dragon except Bruce wasnt in this one. -OberRanks (talk) 02:33, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Can you help me find the name of a song?
[edit]I recalled watching a music video of a song that sounded really good and suddenly want to hear it again today. That song was probably released around six years ago, or longer than that, I'm not sure. In the music video there was an ugly witch/old woman (looked somewhat scary) flying and chasing some men. That's all I remember. It must have been on a chart or had some notability because otherwise I wouldn't have seen it on TV. Can you help me find the song? Thanks. 117.0.58.212 (talk) 12:39, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Was it crazy techno music or floaty classical? Or something else? Anything on the genre would really help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.111.84.39 (talk) 22:13, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- More crazy than floaty, I'd say. Help please? Anyone remembers the song? 117.0.1.59 (talk) 11:27, 18 January 2009 (UTC) (still me, just the dynamic IP address :-/)
Hammer Dracula films
[edit]Why all the Hammer Dracula films (with exception of Horror of Dracula), aren't based directly in the Bram Stoker's novel? 190.22.127.168 (talk) 13:54, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Why would they be? The first film, which you link to, pretty much covers the novel (deviations notwithstanding). After that they could either use the same basic plot over and over again, or they could come up with something new. -- Captain Disdain (talk) 14:06, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Because after the first film, the others are sequels, which intend to continue the story, not retell it over and over again. --Jayron32.talk.contribs 18:10, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
Has there ever been an act of cannibalism captured on live tv?
[edit]Like one news anchor snaps, then eats the other,- that sort of thing.GarageShipbuilder (talk) 20:42, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm pretty sure I saw that a couple of weeks back on the BBC news. I'll try and find the link. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.111.84.39 (talk) 22:15, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- What, swallows the other person whole before anyone can react? Certainly, but not since 1982, when it became international practice to douse all news anchors with appetite suppressants before the broadcast to prevent such tragic events. (Well, except in Great Britain -- hence the above. They like a little blood and circuses over there.) -- Captain Disdain (talk) 22:16, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- Mike Tyson? Pepso2 (talk) 22:36, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
- A brief browse through sundry NSFW sites depicts scantily dressed anchor women nibbling on what I chastely suspect to be cannibalistic sausages and mayonnaise (for obscure reasons I am now joined by our ubiquitous vegetarian non-rhotic group of WP:RD:Vikings, chanting "Spam spam spam spam. Lovely spam"). --Cookatoo.ergo.ZooM (talk) 16:07, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Song with spoken intro
[edit]As people here seem good at identifying songs, I thought I'd give you this one that's eluded me for ten years. I don't really remember much about the song, but I guess it was a hip hop kind of thing. The one thing I do remember is the intro, which was a rather long spoken dialogue between an adult typical "gangsta rapper" and a little boy, who talked back quite persistently (don't remember any specific lines though). Finally, the man had enough and told the boy to "Burn!", abruptly ending the conversation and starting the music. The album this track was on was released at the latest in May 1998 – probably not too long before that, but I don't really know. I realize this is not much information to work with, but any help is appreciated. -- Jao (talk) 23:19, 17 January 2009 (UTC)
