A large number of biographers regarded him originally an Arab whose lineage goes back to Malik al-Ashtar. But according to researches conducted by Mustafa Jawad, Warram's lineage goes back to Kurdish Mawalis of Banu Ashtar who supported Mukhtar al-Thaqafi in his uprising in 66/685. Warram's ancestors were Emirs and prominent figures of their time.
