Welcome to the Department of Military History
Part of the School of History

War has been a more or less natural condition of human societies for the entire span of recorded history. Warfare has been conducted on many different levels, from hand to hand honor duels to multinational instances of total war. The human desire for better military technology has not only driven us to the exploration of space, but has also handed us for the first time tools powerful enough to destroy us all. The massive influence that military conquest and defeat have had on the development of societies on every corner of the earth make an understanding of military history critical. An understanding of the events, peoples, and technologies humans have called on in their darkest hours will allow the student to develop a more thorough view of their world, the peoples who engage in warfare and campaign against it, and allow a fuller understanding of the events shape and have shaped nations.
