Burqin (布尔津; Bùěrjīn) is a city in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

Burqin County has jurisdiction over four towns, two townships and one ethnic township: Burqin Town, Chonghuer Town, Woimok Town, Kuastek Town, Dulaiti Township, Yegezitobe Township and Hemuhanas Mongolian Township.

The scenic spots are mainly distributed in Burqin County and Hemu Hanas Mongolian Township.

History

Burqin was the nomadic land of the Xiongnu in the Western Han Dynasty. The Three Kingdoms belonged to Xianbei, the Sui Dynasty belonged to the Western Turks, the Tang Dynasty belonged to the Beiting capital protection House, and then to the Western Liao. After the Qing Dynasty put down the Dzunggar, the area of Burqin was under the control of Kobudo Counsellors under the left deputy general of Ulya Sutai Dingbian, and it was also a nomadic area under the left wing of Altai Ulianghai. Qing Guangxu thirty years (1905), Kobudo, Altai divided, set up Altai minister, under the control of the Qing Court, Burqin under the jurisdiction of Altai Minister. In the early period of the Republic of China, Altai followed the old system of the Qing Dynasty and was directly under the jurisdiction of the central government. In the three years of the Republic of China (1914), the Burqin River was disintegrated by Chenghua County and was named for being near the Burqin River. In the eighth year of the Republic of China (1919), Altai was assigned to Xinjiang Province and Ashan Road was set up. In the same year, Burqin officially set up a county, has been under the jurisdiction of Ashandao, Ashan Administrative district, Ashan Special District, Altai Special District, 1970 after the Altai region.

Climate

Burqin County, located at the southwest foot of the Altai Mountains in northern Xinjiang and the northern edge of Junggar Basin, belongs to the northern temperate cold climate zone. Its main climatic characteristics are: cold and long winter, hot and dry summer, short spring and autumn, four distinct seasons, sufficient light, scarce precipitation, evaporation. Due to the large difference between the north and the south, the vertical distribution of climate characteristics in the county is obvious.

Kanas Lake is located in the northern part of Burqin County. The lake comes from the glacial meltwater of Kuitun, Youyi Peak and other mountains and the local precipitation. The lake is 1,374 meters above sea level and covers an area of 45.73 km2. It is a mountain lake and inland freshwater lake located in the Altai mountains and dense forests. (updated Sep 2024)

  Hemu village in the snow

  3 Hemu Village (禾木乡), Xinjiang Kanas National Geopark, Great Kanas Tourism Area (布尔津县大喀纳斯旅游区新疆喀纳斯国家地质公园). Hemu Village, the highest administrative body of the prairie, is the northernmost township in western China. Hemu Village is one of the famous Tuvan villages and the farthest and largest of the three remaining Tuvan villages (Hemu Village, Kanas Village and Baihaba Village), with a total area of 3,040 square kilometers. There are more than 1,800 people in the township, among whom there are more than 1,400 Mongolian Tuvans. The main ethnic groups are the Mongolian Tuvans and Kazakhs, whose wooden houses are scattered across the mountainous grasslands. The ticket price of Hemu scenic spot is adjusted to 50 yuan/person in the peak season and 25 yuan/person in the off-season. The peak season is from May 1 to October 15 each year, and the low season is from October 16 to April 30 each year. (updated Oct 2024)

• 1 Gikpring International Ski Resort (吉克普林国际滑雪场), 5 km east of Hemu Village (布尔津县禾木村东侧5公里). From November 5th to April 30th of the following year, 10:00-19:00; May 1st - November 4th 10:00-21:00. Hemu Village is in the mountains, where the average snow thickness in winter is 1 meter and the thickest place can reach 2 meters. It begins to snow in mid-September every year and lasts until April. Snow falls more than half of the year, so skiing is also one of the reasons the area attracts travelers. (updated Oct 2024)
