Late Medieval or Early Modern Greek regional εἶντα / εἴντα from τεῖντα (teînta) / τείντα, equivalent to a contraction of the phrase τί εἶναι τά > τί εἶν' τά -Modern Greek spelling: τι είναι τα (ti eínai ta, “what are the these”).
