Etymology

Probably of onomatopoeic origin, imitating gurgling of water when it is poured out of a bottle. Compare Arabic بَقْبَقَة (baqbaqa, gurgling sound), Classical Syriac ܒܿܲܓܼܒܿܘܼܓܼܵܐ (baḡbūḡā, pitcher).
