[edit]From Middle Persian hlbwlc (Harborz, “the mountain range surrounding the world”), from Old Persian *Harā Brzatī (“high mountain”), northwestern borrowing from Proto-Iranian *Harā Bṛzatī (Compare Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬭𐬁⸱𐬠𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬍 (harā.bərəzaitī, “a legendary mountain in Iranian mythology”)). Akin to English Elbrus.
