Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hráwdʰitas (“red”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁rewdʰ- (“red”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬊𐬌𐬜𐬌𐬙𐬀 (raoiδita), English red. Also related to लोहित (lóhita), लोह (lohá) and रुधिर (rudhira, “red”).

Dark steeds or ruddy steeds draw his chariot; carried about in different directions, he makes them red of colour.
