ネーム (nēmu

  1. Synonym of 名前 (namae): a name (word or phrase indicating a particular person, place, class or thing)
  2. (manga) a manga storyboard, focusing on the words in the speech or thought bubbles to help determine the drawing and frame layout
    • 2009 January 10, Tsugumi Ohba with Obata, Takeshi, “(さん)ページ ペンとネーム”, in BAKUMAN(バクマン), volume 1 (fiction), Tokyo: Shueisha, →ISBN, page 104:
      これか これがネームか マンガ(しょう)()(しゅう)ページとかで()にした(こと)あるけど
      Kore ka Kore ga nēmu ka Mangashō no boshū pēji to ka de me ni shita koto arukedo
      So: this is a storyboard, huh? I’ve seen one on some application page for a manga award.
      Manga no shitagaki mitai na mon Mazu kore o kaite henshūsha ni misete ōkē ga detara hajimete genkō ni dekiru ōkē ga deru made wa nando demo kakinaoshi Motto mo nēmu de misete ii no wa mangaka toshite no sainō o mitomerareta yatsu na
      It’s basically a rough sketch for manga. First you make one and show it to the editor, and only if it’s okayed can you go ahead with the draft. You may have to do it over a couple of times till it gets okayed. Though good manga artists can just pass with the storyboard alone.
