Etymology

From Old Japanese 癈ふ (sipu), attested in the Man'yōshū (c. 759) as 四臂 (sipi₁), hinting at an irregular change from yodan conjugation to kami nidan.

     To do the things like cultivating the rice fields, it would be seen in ways that would have been paralyzing.
