[edit]Found in various historical dictionaries such as Yupian 《玉篇 (Yùpiān)》 and Guangyun 《廣韻 (Guǎngyùn)》.
In the 1956 first round revision table of variant Chinese characters (第一批异体字整理表) by the People's Republic of China, 蒞/莅 (lì) and 涖 (lì) were listed as variant forms that were replaced by 莅 as the orthodox form.

[edit]- In mainland China, 蒞/莅 (lì) and 涖 (lì) are considered as variant forms of 莅 which is used as the orthodox form.
- In Taiwan, 蒞/莅 (lì) is considered as the orthodox form while 涖 (lì) is a variant form of 蒞/莅 (lì). This character, 莅 is a rarely encountered character (生僻字 (shēngpìzì)) in modern Taiwan.
