Etymology

Potentially attested as Deusone in 380, attested with certainty as diesne in 712. Derived from the dative plural form of the hydronym Dieze, which may derive from a term cognate to Old High German dôsôn (“bubble, effervesce”), for which see modern German tosen (“to rage”). Compare Deest, Diest and Duisburg.
