How is "石" the semantic component of this character? As far as my understanding goes that makes little sense. It's probably logical for the sixth definition (to pile up), but I can not see how "石" would be a semantic element for the other definitions. – VulpesVulpes42 (talk) 18:52, 5 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

@VulpesVulpes42: It originally means to place something on the ground, to pile up. In old time people placed and arranged objects on the ground to represent digits and numbers, thus the meaning. Mteechan (talk) 19:57, 23 August 2016 (UTC)Reply
