[edit]Via Low German agurke or Dutch agurk from Polish ogórek, from Byzantine Greek ἀγγούριον (angoúrion, “melon”). Possibly a derivation from ἄγουρος (ágouros, “unripe”), from Ancient Greek ἄωρος (áōros, “unripe”).
