From the root sav- (cf. savęs), related to Latvian savs, Old Prussian swais, Proto-Slavic *svojь. From Proto-Balto-Slavic *swaias, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *swé.[1]

The pronoun sàvo is used whenever the possessive form relates back to the subject of the sentence. Compare:

Jìs nerañda sàvo bìlieto.
He can't find his (own) ticket.
Jìs nerañda bìlieto.
He can't find his (someone else's) ticket.
